It was formed as part of the Air Atlantique Group of Companies to specialise in the supply of contract and ad hoc cargo services.
Since July 2001 Atlantic Airlines has traded independently within the group and continues to broaden its product range and capability, for instance through the signing of a strategic alliance with a similar specialist operator, Enimex of Estonia.
Atlantic Airlines also holds a contract to provide the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency with Lockheed Electra aircraft fitted with aerial spray equipment to combat oil pollution at sea.

Earlier last week an Enimex An 28 (a variation on the Shorts 300 theme) crashed on take-off from Tallinn for the short flight to Helsinki.
The Estonian authorities were quick to suspend the Enimex AOC, therefore nullifying the UK An 72 operation.
Commentators are concerned that expansion of the European Community will open up both the passenger and cargo market to carriers whose monitoring might not meet the standards set by the JAA.

For example RAF Avia, Enimex and Air Memphis are regular visitors.
I can't imaging that al these airlines are banned from the English Airspace due to safety problems with their planes, otherwise they would also be banned in the Netherlans for sure and maybe also in Belgium.
Concerning Enimex, I wonder how they fly from Estland to Ireland then if they are banned from English airspace.
