Perhaps the most suspect thing about this is the December date, which I don't think Square Enix could pull off even if they had worked day and night on the game since they showed us the tech demo at E3 2005.
In other news: Square Enix has filed a trademark for "Friends of Mana", that whole J thing from last week is actually a spinoff for the DS tenatively called Dragon Quest: Joker, and you can see some new Final Fantasy III DS screens here.
Additionally, the Square Enix crew had a lot to say about Final Fantasy XIII, but it would probably be far more interesting to read the 12 paragraph write up that is up at RPGFan.
