Enix America, Inc., Enix's last American localization subsidiary, was organized in 1999 after the release of Dragon Warrior Monsters through a joint venture with Eidos.
The corporation was in existence from 1999 to 2003, ceasing to exist after the merger with Square Co., Ltd.

Square Enix sucks and frankly the last thing we need on our console are developers like them, EA and Koei making boring, repititous sequels each and every year with minor enhancements.
The reason Square Enix is rumored to be coming to the Xbox is because the Japanese games market is in decline, it has been since 2001 and thats what Japanese game designer THEMSELVES are saying.

A translation was attempted, but the English script was too long to fit into the largest cartridge ROM size available at the time.
It proved to the fan translation community that such large-scale translations were indeed possible, and soon many other games followed in the reverse engineering model.
The US version was censored due to religious themes, and the original version used a custom chip, incompatible with American NES consoles, that enhanced the game's music and graphics.

Fans from the originals that fell in love with that olde English style may be a bit crestfallen as Enix of America opted not to keep the original translation.
Enix admitted that there had to be quite a few changes from the original Japanese story to accomodate the olde style.
While no word was given on if the latest Dragon Quest portable port would see light outside the land of the Rising Sun, Enix of America did tell RPGamer that they will be watching the sales of the first port to judge if there is still a market for the Dragon Warrior series.
