Enlisted aviation students had to be 18 to 22 years old, while commissioned cadets were 20 to 27 years old.
Enlisted men had to graduate from an accredited high school, rank in the upper half of their classes and have one-and-a-half math credits.
Eventually, most enlisted pilots were assigned to transport operations, becoming the human airframe of the forming troop carrier commands and air cargo divisions of the Army Air Forces we now know as the Air Force's Air Mobility Command.

 37th United States Colored Troops - Recruited at Plymouth, NC
Captured at the Battle of Plymouth and was sent to Andersonville under the disguise of an enlisted soldier of the 103d PA. After three weeks his true identity was known and he was transferred to the officer's prison at Macon, GA. He survived the war.
Enlisted 21 Sept `64 at New Bern, NC.
Enlisted 22 Dec `63 at Hampton, VA. Died 12 July 1864 in the hospital.
