Everyone who bought Enron stock or endorsed their approach bought into a basic principle: The energy that people need for survival should be a way to generate big profits, rather than treated as a public service that either breaks even or makes a modest profit.

Spinsanity - Countering rhetoric with reason
Just as Republicans and conservative pundits have drummed the phrase "Daschle Democrats" into our heads in recent weeks, Democrats are pushing a new catchphrase that attempts to non-rationally link the Bush administration with Enron in the minds of the public.
As first predicted by George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week", Democrats are planning to employ the phrase "Enronomics" to delegitimize President Bush's economic policies by comparing them to the bankrupt energy trading company:
The term "Enronomics" appears to been coined in a December 14 article on the Democratic Underground website.

Its bankruptcy proceedings opened what may turn out to be a Pandora's box for more than just the corporation itself.
Journalists are using the freshly minted term Enronomics to describe this corporation's brand of economics and accounting: off-the-record dealings, cooking books, and number sorcery that led to its rise and crash.
Whether the term enronomics sticks, only time will tell.

There is a parallel between this tactic of Reaganomics and the latest accounting tricks of so-called Enronomics, and the failure of the energy giant Enron.
Enronomics used the same trick to hide losses -- even though one is a government entity and the other is a corporate entity and the bookkeeping is different.
But Enron did use the same tactic in hiding its losses through offshore accounts.

Democrats knock 'Enronomics' / But strategists warn against embarking on political witch hunt   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
No one doubts the bankrupt energy company's close ties with President Bush and others at the White House create a political liability for the Republicans.
Yet even as Democrats actively link the White House to "Enronomics," as some now call it, strategists are warning that any appearance of a political witch hunt -- especially in the middle of a war -- could backfire with serious electoral consequences.
It is not simply a matter of high-profile Democrats -- including Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut -- having received donations from the Houston-based energy giant.
