Enteroctopus dofleini resides throughout the North Pacific Ocean, including the Japanese Pacific coast, and the Western coast of the United States ranging from Alaska to California.
Enteroctopus dolfleini has the capability to change color rapidly due to chromataphore combinations and reflection from iridophores and leucophores, which are located just under the dermis.
Enteroctopus dofleini will spawn at various times of year depending on location; those residing in the northeastern Pacific prefer winter, while in Alaska, the peak for egg-laying occurs from April to May (Paust, 1988).

Choice of arm usage in a Giant Pacific Octopus, Enteroctopus dofleini (Hochberg, 1998), is based on relative ...
The choice of arm usage in an individual adult male Enteroctopus dofleini was observed, recorded and analyzed.
It was hypothesized that the octopus would use the arm that was closest to an object of interaction, and not show a preference for a particular arm as has been found in most other animal species.
This different aspect of an octopus's CNS implies that it might be possible that preference in arm usage is non-existent in octopuses.

The aquarist, doing her best to stay cool, began peeling the suction cups off my hand with nudges of her finger, first gentle and then firmer, and firmer still.
But Leroy was a crafty enteroctopus, and for every sucker the aquarist peeled off, he threw down two or three more.
Soon she was going at it with both hands, and I pitched in with my spare hand whenever I could — warily, as I did not relish the idea of him getting hold of both hands and holding me in suction cuffs, as it were.
