Entrapment (movie) - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Entrapment (1999), directed by Jon Amiel, is a film starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
It was greatly criticised by several critics, with one complaining that the movie was "dedicated to one woman's ass" due to a close-up of Zeta-Jones' posterior being prominent in the trailers for the film.
Complaints also arose from Malaysia, with some claiming that the movie depicted Malaysia as a backwards country, and was factually inaccurate.

Entrapment Movie Review at Hollywood Video
Entrapment is a piffle of a film, unremarkable in almost every aspect other than its stars' acres of charisma.
It is. Entrapment is absurdist escapism in its most classic form, a glossy throwback to the age where the gentlemen jewel thieves of To Catch a Thief and Gambit trotted the globe plucking emeralds and ingenues from exotic ports-of-call.
The movie's plot, intricate as it is, is secondary to the chemistry between the two stars, each of whom has enough electricity to power a small city.

Entrapment Movie Review by Anthony Leong
"Entrapment" calls to mind the caper flicks of the Sixties, most notably "The Thomas Crown Affair", which itself has been remade and due in theaters later this summer.
However, as the plot thickens, which eventually leads the two partners to Kuala Lampur on the eve of the Millennium, Virginia's loyalties are called into question when it seems that she is playing both sides, straddling the fine line between turning Mac in and lining her own pockets in the crime of the century.
Though the premise of "Entrapment" sets up some interesting dramatic possibilities with Virginia's eventual displacement of loyalties, they end up becoming lost in the messy machinations of the film's nonsensical plot.

 Entrapment - Movie Review
"Entrapment" is a burglar-and-babe caper picture with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the genre's requisite roles of aging thief and scrutinizing vixen.
The picture opens with the best scene in the movie -- a gadget-laden burglar attempting a daring skyscraper break-in that starts with a suicidal roof-top dive halted by a computerized tether at just the right floor, where windows, then Rembrants, are removed.
So incestuous and bound by tradition are movies in this genre (masked balls, September-May romances) that it's impossible to watch "Entrapment" without being reminded of its much better predecessors like "To Catch a Thief" and "The Thomas Crown Affair" (coincidentally being re-made by another James Bond vet, Pierce Brosnan).

 Jesusfreakhideout.com "Entrapment" Movie Review
Entrapment is entertaining and disappointing at the same time.
It had some rather suspenseful and intriguing heist scenes that basically made the movie.
Overall, the movie is pretty good, however, due to the language, and above-mentioned complaints, i can't grant this film more than somewhere between 2 & a half and 3 stars.

There are few films done in the 1990s by Sean Connery that I really like.
The movie has a plot which on the surface is fairly straight-forward.
Gin Baker (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is an insurance company who is trying to track a famous art thief Robert "Mac" MacDougal (Connery) into incriminating himself.

 Entrapment - Rotten Tomatoes
Aspires to be nothing more than a bit of glamorous nonsense, but although it has done all right by the glamour, it has perhaps done too well by the nonsense.
A wildly expensive movie full of computers, nonsense and violence, a film where wit, romance, elegance - everything - is sacrificed on the altar of giganticism, cliche and over-the-top action.
Entrapment simply reminds us again how far Hollywood is from the true legacies of its greatest genre directors.

 Entrapment - Movie Rental Review
"Entrapment" has caught the look and feel but not the heart of classics like "Topkapi" and "To Catch a Thief." Sean Connery plays "Mac" MacDougal, a dashing (if somewhat creaky) thief who cannot help responding to a challenge.
Connery, who also co-produced, delivers the goods in true movie star fashion, making wooden dialogue seem deliciously roguish, and Zeta Jones has appealing grace and spirit as well as breathtaking beauty.
Heist movies are terrific examples of problem solving, as they lay out exactly what the obstacles are, come up with strategies to address each one, and then, as Mac points out, come up with back-up strategies for the inevitable problems and mistakes.
