  Entropion
Entropion is a common congenital defect of the eyelids.
Sometimes entropion may be caused by dust or debris collecting in the eye, by eyelashes growing in the wrong direction, or by an eye injury.
Entropion is the term given to the overall condition when the lower eyelid inrolls, bringing the eyelashes into direct contact with the cornea.

American Chesapeake Club - Eye Diseases (part 1 of 2)
Entropion is the medical term which indicates that the eyelids roll inward toward the surface of the eye.
Entropion can result in corneal ulcers or scarring of the surface of the cornea due to chronic irritation from the hairs of the skin touching the cornea during blinking.
Spastic entropion is caused by ocular irritation that initiates continued spastic contraction of the orbicular muscle resulting in inversion of the lid margin.

The Encyclopedia of Aging and The Elderly: entropion (inward turning lid)
Entropion is the turning inward of the margin of the eyelid caused by a decrease in muscle tone and loss of fat around the eye in the elderly.
Symptoms of entropion include tearing and a foreign body sensation caused by the eyelashes rubbing against the eye.
In minor cases temporary relief may be obtained by drawing the skin of the outer eyelid down by means of a strip of adhesive tape or by pulling the lashes.

 Dr. Koop - Entropion
Entropion involves the turning in of the edges of the eyelid (usually the lower eyelid) so that the lashes rub against the eye surface.
In older people, the condition is usually caused by a spasm and weakening of the muscles surrounding the lower part of the eye, causing the lid to turn inward.
Risk factors for entropion are aging, chemical burn, or prior infection with trachoma.

 Entropion and Ectropion Repair
Entropion is the medical term used to describe rolling inward of the lower eyelid and eyelashes towards the eye.
Most cases of entropion are due to relaxation of the tissues of the eyelid as a result of aging.
Entropion should be repaired surgically before the rubbing damages the cornea by causing infection and scarring.

eMedicine - Entropion : Article by Christopher DeBacker
Dysgenesis of the lower eyelid retractors may be present creating instability in the eyelid with consequent entropion, or a paucity of tissue may be present vertically in the posterior lamella of the eyelid.
Cicatricial entropion occurs as a result of scarification of the palpebral conjunctiva, with consequent inward rotation of the eyelid margin.
For patients with a cicatricial entropion picture in whom ocular cicatricial pemphigoid is suspected, an autoimmune process should be ruled out by testing for antibasement membrane antibodies on a section of conjunctiva obtained during a biopsy.

 Senile Entropion
Entropion is defined as inversion of the eyelid margin.
Clinical features associated with entropion may be observed both in and out of the biomicroscope and include in-turning of the eyelid margin, eyelid skin or eyelashes contacting the cornea creating ocular irritation, foreign body sensation, epiphora, conjunctival hyperemia, superficial punctate epitheliopathy and, in severe or untreated cases, corneal ulceration.
Cicatricial entropion is produced when there is as a vertical shortening of the tarsus secondary to scarring of ocular tissue brought about by disorders such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, trachoma, herpes zoster, trauma, chemical injuries, or thermal burns.

Entropion is a lid malposition with an inward rotation of the lid margin toward the globe.
-A mild upper lid cicatricial entropion where there is an apparent migration of the posterior meibomian glands orifices may require an anterior lamellar reposition which lifts the pretarsal anterior lamella with the lashes in front of the tarsus.
-A marked upper lid cicatricial entropion, with lashes abrading cornea may be corrected with anterior lamellar reposition associated with a split of the lid margin just anterior to the orifices of the meibomian glands and an eversion of all the lashes.

 Entropion in Cats
Entropion in the cat is more likely to develop later in life secondary to other changes around the eye.
Entropion repair in the cat may need to be repeated if future corneal or conjunctival irritation results in new episodes of spasm.
The most common surgical technique used to correct entropion in the cat is the removal of an elliptical piece of skin from the eyelid, near the eyelid margin.

 Veterinary Vision: Public Forum *Entropion*
Entropion is a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to contact the surface of the eye.
Often the severity of the entropion is related to the amount and weight of the skin and wrinkles covering the head and face and the conformation of the skull.
Permanent treatment for entropion requires a surgical procedure to remove a narrow segment of skin and muscle from the eyelid with stitches used to evert the eyelid to a normal position.

Entropion is the medical term used to describe a condition where the lower eyelid and eyelashes turn or roll inward towards the eye.
Entropion is usually due to relaxing of the tissues of the eyelid as a result of aging changes, Thus, it is most often seen in elderly people who develop stretching of the structures supporting the lower eyelid to turn inward.
Entropion seen in babies usually resolves spontaneously within a few months, but occasionally needs to be treated.

Entropion is an abnormal distortion of the eyelids in which they roll inwards so that the eyelashes, and the edge of the eyelid rub on the surface of the eye.
If the entropion is minor and just a few eyelashes are in contact with the surface of the eye epilation may be used.
For entropion associated with clinical signs, there are many surgical procedures to correct the alignment of the eyelids involving plastic surgery of the skin and muscle adjacent to the eyelid margin - various techniques have been described which incorporate the use of a scalpel or, more recently, laser technology.
