According to a $700 million official study, "There is no evidence of a general or unusual decline of forests in the U.S. or Canada due to acid rain." As for environmentalists' pressures to come to a panicky conclusion one of the study's authors said, "Yes, there were political pressures.
The media treats environmentalists, who've been wrong time after time as gods of the truth.
Our continued belief in environmentalist mistakes, manipulation, lies and fear mongering leads us to establish public policies that kill people and reduce standards of living such as CAFÉ standards that downsize autos and cause unnecessary highway deaths, energy saving regulations that produce airtight sick buildings and the international push for birth control.

 Environmentalism: A Modern Idolatry
Although, most committed environmentalists would claim to be much too sophisticated to be following in the footsteps of some ancient pagan or animistic religion, their new "progressive environmentalism," in reality, is simply a re-packaging of old pantheistic errors combined with a much more dangerous set of public policy proposals than previous versions of environmentalism.
Environmentalists generally do not like to talk about the subject of economic costs, claiming that it is an immoral subject, and that one cannot simply put a price on a clean, healthy, safe, or beautiful environment (with these characteristics being themselves defined by environmentalism -- which of course imposes a utopian standard).
Environmentalists often claim that there are "externalities" (negative side effects or "spillovers") in society as a result of economic and industrial activity.

Environmentalist Gridlock by Jason Hoskin -- Capitalism Magazine   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
With the philosophical underpinnings, and murderous track record of the environmentalist movement, it is not surprising that the environmentalists have turned their venomous hatred toward the automobile.
The more honest environmentalist will admit they are willing to demand sacrifices of man for the sake of the non-human concerns such as endangered species, trees, or to preserve the natural landscape.
But often environmentalists claim they are motivated by concern for the human health hazard brought about by increased pollution due to more extensive automobile use.

Environmentalist groups like Greenpeace quickly raised the alarm, warning that "the current ozone crisis … is not only a matter of human survival, but that of the survival of all of life."
Many historians believe the modern environmentalist movement began in 1962 when Rachel Carson published "Silent Spring." In that book she warned that the pesticide DDT was wreaking ecological havoc on America.
Environmentalists often disagree, and this leads them to embrace unsound scientific positions without proper consideration because they already believe them to be true.

Looking forward: A 21st century environmental agenda
We think a fair reading of The Skeptical Environmentalist is that it is simplistic, vulnerable to many of the claims of distortion that Lomborg levies against the environmental movement, and vastly uninformed about the real state of the environment and of the environmental agenda.
A central element in the new agenda is a belief in transparency and accountability for corporations, for governments, and for environmental organizations themselves.
In particular, the new environmental agenda seeks to hold governments accountable for providing the public with information about the environment, a voice in decisions that affect the environment, and access to justice when their environmental rights are not respected.

Environmentalist concerns have moved centre stage in most major religious traditions of late and Buddhism is no exception to this rule.
The classical treatment of causation fails to resolve successfully the tension between symmetry and asymmetry of relations and this has tended to mean that attempts to inject a telos, or sense of purpose, into the world are likely to founder.
In the first place, few of the Buddha's injunctions can be used unambiguously to support environmentalist ends [35] and in the second, the dysteleological character of Buddhist thought militates against anything that could be construed as injecting the concept of an "end" or "purpose" into the world.

Most people think of themselves as "environmentalists." But by that term, they mean something far different -- and far more innocent -- than do the most prominent philosophers, founders, and leaders of the modern environmentalist movement.
Typically, the person who calls himself an "environmentalist" is really just a nature-loving "conservationist." Appreciating the earth's natural beauty and bounty, he is understandably concerned about trash, noise, pollution, and poisons.
Their basic agenda, therefore, is to stop the "assault" and "onslaught" of human activity: to place every possible impediment to man's further development of the earth and its resources.

A prominent theme of the environmentalist literature (and the work of environmental ethicists like Callicott) has been that a holistic environmental ethic is necessary to provide strong support for these goals, that neither an individualist nor anthropocentric view can do it.
Note that insofar as both Singer's and Regan's views are axiologically anthropocentric, the defense of the environmentalist agenda given here works for their views as well.

The Skeptical Environmentalist obviously should be held to high standards of accuracy, but to insist that it read like a scientific paper is both specious and disingenuous.
The book is essentially a response to such popular environmentalist tracts as the State of the World report and the reams of misinformation disseminated by Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, the Union of Concerned Scientists, The Ecologist, the Turning Point Project, Grist, Wild Earth, and the rest of the sprawling eco-media propaganda complex.

Lomborg noted that, Greenpeace’s doom-saying notwithstanding, the world’s environmental resources were not being depleted; that the disastrous consequences of global warming were greatly exaggerated; and that the continued technological development of the world would improve the quality of life for all people without ushering in the environmental apocalypse long forecast by Greenpeace with Nostradamus-like conviction.

Lomborg's move to put environmental considerations on the same level as others, such as the prosperity of humanity, threatens the belief that the environmentalist agenda is more important than all others because it's free from individualistic self-interest.
