He was born in 467 F.A. to Handir and Beldis, a woman of the House of Bëor.
During Túrin's foray to kill Glaurung, Brandir observed the drama from afar and overheard Glaurung telling Nienor who she really was.

Narchost and Carchost were the two Towers of the Teeth that stood above the Morannon where the Ephel Dúath met the Ered Lithui in the northwest of Mordor.
This use of this word for a mountain range is unique, but it does also appear with a more literal meaning in Ephel Brandir, the name of the stockade on Amon Obel in Brethil.
