 Epidermophyton Species
Epidermophyton is a filamentous fungus and one of the three fungal genera classified as dermatophytes.
As with all forms of dermatophytosis, Epidermophyton floccosum infections are communicable and usually transmitted by contact, particularly in common showers and gym facilities.
Epidermophyton floccosum is differentiated from Microsporum and Trichophyton by the absence of microconidia.

Abstract: Undecylenic acid and tolnaftate were tested in an in vitro test system to evaluate their relative "killing time" efficacy against Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, and Epidermophyton floccosum.
In the 536 patients with clinical manifestations which were evident to a certain degree, microscope and cultural examination gave positive results for dermatophytes in 169 cases (31.5%).
In the 186 patients without lesions, direct microscope examination was consistently negative while cultural examination showed the growth of sparse colonies of Candida albicans in two cases (1.1%) We analysed distribution by sex, age, residence, occupation and clinical manifestations.

Clinical and Molecular Allergy | Full text | Dermatology for the practicing allergist: Tinea pedis and its complications
Tinea pedis is a chronic fungal infection of the feet, very often observed in patients who are immuno-suppressed or have diabetes mellitus.
Tinea pedis presents as pruritic, erythematous, inflamed regions on the feet that may be located on the sole (vesicular type) or lateral aspects (moccasin type) of the foot and sometimes between the toes (interdigital type).
Another pathogen known to cause tinea pedis and is responsible for 5% of tinea pedis infections is Epidermophyton floccosum [6].

Ringworm (Dermatophytosis) is not a worm but a fungal disease that infects skin, hair, and claws by one of the three types of fungus (dermatophytes) — Epidermophyton, Microsporum, and Trichophyton.
These pathogenic fungi are found worldwide, and all domestic animals are susceptible.
Items that cannot be thrown away can be left in the sun outside to rid them of ringworm contamination.

Fungal Drugs, Topical | Caremark Health Resources
Topical antifungal drugs are medicines applied to the skin to treat skin infections caused by a fungus.
Dermatologic fungal infections are usually described by their location on the body: tinea pedis (infection of the foot), tinea unguium (infection of the nails), tinia capitis (infection of the scalp.) Three types of fungus are involved in most skin infections: Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, and Microsporum.
Mild infections are usually susceptible to topical therapy, however severe or resistant infections may require systemic treatment.
