At this first convention of the Episcopal Diocese in Wisconsin, several Oneida Indian members were present, including Chief Daniel Bread, who was given the seat of honor and addressed the convention in the Oneida language.
In 1875 the Diocese of Fond du Lac was created to serve the 26 counties in the northeastern part of the state.
The Diocese of Milwaukee today covers the southern third of the state from Kenosha and Port Washington on Lake Michigan, to Prairie du Chien on the Mississippi River (an east-west span of 180 miles), and from Wisconsin Dells south to the Illinois border (a north-south span of 100 miles).

At least nine of the nation's 107 Episcopal dioceses and dozens of individual congregations have joined the Network of Anglican Communion Dioceses and Parishes, a conservative group that was formed at a January meeting in Texas to oppose the national church's decisions on homosexuality.
The network has made it clear that it intends to operate within the Episcopal Church, and the archbishop of Canterbury's interpretation is that the network is not a rival denomination to the Episcopal Church in the United States, Robert Williams, a spokesperson for the denomination in New York, said Friday.
Most came from Trinity Episcopal Church in Wauwatosa, where heated disputes last year over the national church's actions resulted in the departure of about 30 parishioners from what continues to be one of the largest Episcopal congregations in Wisconsin, according to Wilson and Bill Robison, Trinity's current senior warden.

Within the last year, the Diocese of Milwaukee has been restructured and has a goal of doubling its membership within 10 years.
After the August convention, Miller, who was then bishop-elect, and three other officials from the Diocese of Milwaukee who had attended the convention, wrote a letter that they asked to be read at Episcopal Masses in the region.
In the letter, they defended the approval of the openly gay bishop, saying it was a matter of allowing members of a diocese to choose their own leader, which they said was an essentially Anglican principle.

Fourteen members of the Grace Episcopal congregation and Associate Pastor Roman Shemayev brought a complaint today against Bishop Steven A. Miller, accusing him of violating church law in bringing charges against Grace Rector Martha Ann Englert.
The complaint alleges that Miller, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, which includes Madison, abused the authority of his office.
Being from a diocese to the north of Milwaukee opinion re this bishop is not good regardless of who is the priest subject to his complaint.
