Another Day at The Office By Dana Stevens
Not only do Office fans have to be patient about waiting for the next installment—it's been over two years since the end of the second season—they have to exercise patient attention in each individual episode, each individual scene.
The return of the BBC comedy series The Office for a two-hour series finale last night made me think about how being an Office aficionado (and there are many of us out there) is a little bit like being a Red Sox fan: If you can be patient, your investment will pay off big.
But somehow in the course of the show's two six-episode seasons (both of which are now available on DVD), the everyday nothingness of The Office transforms into a moving and hilarious everything.

The figures, released by the state Film Office yesterday, showed TV series accounted for 38 percent of the spending.

'The Office': NBC's Passable Duplicate Of the Brit Hit (washingtonpost.com)
Others in the cast are nearly as good as their British equivalents, including sweetie-pie Jenna Fischer as wistful Pam, the office receptionist who dares now and then to dream of escape from this drably suffocating environment, and two competing salesmen, John Krasinski as the coolly flippant Jim and Rainn Wilson as the slimy little Dwight.
Largely faithful in tone to the BBC series, which concentrates on the maddening banality of workplace-as-microcosm, NBC's "Office" still fails to score a direct hit, settling instead for an amusing approximation.
Perhaps you've seen this series -- commercials for Burger King in which a little band of office workers try to survive the ineptitude of supervisors and the punishing tedium of their meaningless work.

In the U.S., the series ran between 1996 and 2003, though not always on the same networks or with continuity of dubbing.
It aired in the UK, albeit with the same dubbing problem, on Cartoon Network, premiering on March 6, 2000 and running until 2002, with the final few episodes being shown on CNX starting from October 14, 2002, before that channel relaunched as Toonami, on which it is repeated daily.
Shortly after the September 11 attacks, CN cut an episode of Dragon Ball Z where Gohan saves a plane from crashing, then later has to deal with a burning skyscraper office building, due to the obvious parallel imagery.

Laughter in the Workplace By Dana Stevens
In fact, working at an office can be like watching a TV series: the immutable return to a neutral space that offers us the sight of familiar (if dreaded) faces and the comfort of ritual, all the while holding out the possibility that something might actually happen.
The BBC comedy The Office recently completed its second six-episode season.
The Office's real laughs come from the awkward silences between the jokes, just as its truly moving dramatic moments (and there are many) come from the patient accretion of emotional detail.

A series of inconsequential roles in inconsequential pictures, beginning with Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), did little to further his career, but his rugged face made him a natural for Westerns like Journey to Shiloh (1968), as well as occasional gueststar status on TV fare like Gunsmoke and The Virginian.
