Necrophagist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Necrophagist is a technical death metal band from Germany.
Necrophagist was joined on this tour by Arsis, Alarum, Neuraxis, Ion Dissonance, Job for a Cowboy, Cattle Decapitation and Thine Eyes Bleed.
The lyrics of their songs on their first album, Onset of Putrefaction were primarily inspired by a fascination of corpse mutilation, gore and necrophilia, while their sophomore release, Epitaph, had more poetic lyrics.

Epitaph (Necrophagist album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Epitaph is an album by the German technical death metal band Necrophagist.
It is their second studio album and was released by Relapse Records on August 3, 2004.
While not much has changed within Necrophagist's sound, they have successfully created another well-received album, once again containing technical and complex riffs.

My brain seems to malfunction when trying to describe this album; it is an excellent album, but in comparison to the previous it certainly fails to impress.
In context, the previous album was the sum total of years of work and the present was most likely rushed by Relapse and regardless of pressure it did not have 10 years of work poured into it.
Do not skip this album, it is not a performance to be missed, but be prepared to accept it for what it is.

Necrophagist : Epitaph - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The first album by Necrophagist, 1999's Onset of Putrefaction, was actually a completely solo recording made by Turkish guitar prodigy Muhammed Suicmez, who also handled the vocals, bass guitar, and drum programming.
Epitaph is the first album by this full lineup, and as expected, it features an almost nonstop assault of complex, technical death metal with an emphasis on Suicmez's lead guitar.
Listeners who prefer a few more rough edges to their death metal may tire of Epitaph after a few songs, or at least wish there were a few mistakes here and there to give it more of a human feel.

Necrophagist regained popularity recently when it was announced that they would be releasing their new full length on Relapse Records, five years after their debut album.
But where Necrophagist really earn their keep, and distinguish themselves from other bands, isn't in their technical proficiency and scrupulous execution - it's in their ability to write cohesive, coherent and accessible songs within a framework of discordance and asymmetry that would have most bands scratching their heads in confusion.
Necrophagist never forget the big picture, the song, even while playing with an ambition and complexity that would have most so-called tech metal musicians drooling all over themselves.

Necrophagist is clearly a technically proficient death metal band, but their ear for a catchy riff quickly propels them to a point of greatness reserved for some of the most established names associated with the style.

Necrophagist - 'Onset Of Putrefaction (reissue)' review @ into-obscurity.com[enter the underground]
Last week, I received Necrophagist's new album, "Epitaph" and only a day or two after I wrote the review of that record, I'm now in possession of the re-released version of the band's debut album, "Onset Of Putrefaction".
On top of all that, two tracks from the band's 1995 self-titled demo were tacked on to the end of the recording and even they eclipse most of what the death metal scene has released in the past decade.
What continues to impress me about Necrophagist is their ability to write a completely accessible song where every riff and drumbeat is totally schizophrenic.

Epitaph it is. The more I listen to it, the more I find, as Cloaca said somewhere, other stuff "relatively" boring.
Epitaph, loses some of its death metal appeal to me because of its overt melodies (generally), but I can appreciate it more of musician level, the way the guitars play off eachother especially.
That being said, the albums loses points in comparison to Onset, because of what I found to be an overemphasis on the soloing (I know I know a huge part of the Necrophagist character), I would of liked to hear more focus on the riffing in general.

Cynic took it also to different regions, although they were not death metal in the strictest sense of the word anymore, and the equally amazing Atheist and Pestilence were always closer to their thrash roots.
This means that Epitaph took five years in the making, and it's worth every one of it.
