 Institute for Antiviral Research
Sidwell, Director of the Institute, received his Ph.D. in microbiology at the University of Utah in 1963.
He worked in viral epidemiology and pathogenesis in the Epizoology Laboratory, University of Utah, from 1958 to 1963.
He was then appointed Head of the Virus Section, and later Head of the Virus Division, of Southern Research Institute (SRI, Birmingham, AL), where he supervised several contracts and grants on antiviral research from 1963 to 1969.

Sidwell received his PhD in microbiology at the University of Utah in 1963.
He worked in the university's Epizoology Laboratory on a Department of Defense project to study diseases of human significance in wild animals native to Western Utah from 1958-1963.
After receiving his PhD, he became senior virologist at Southern Research Institute (SRI), Birmingham, AL, heading a National Cancer Institute-sponsored project studying biologically active chemicals for antiviral activity in laboratory animal models; he later became head of the Virus Section and then the Division of Virology.

Rather you might contract West Nile or not via a cut or other break in the skin is a rather moot point if the possibility can be removed by donning a pair of cheap gloves.
There is a lot more mumbo jumbo and hocus pocus about virals, protein jackets and viabilities that I have omitted for the sake of brevity........after all, this isn't offered as a course in Epizoology or viralogy.......WEAR YER GLOVES.....LOL
