Eppa Hunton II (September 24, 1822 October 11, 1908) was a U.S. Representative and Senator from Virginia and a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.
Hunton was born near Warrenton, Virginia on September 24, 1822, to Eppa Sr.
In February 1861, Hunton was a delegate to the Virginia Secession Convention, and advocated secession.

Early in May 1861, Eppa Hunton was commissioned by His Excellency, John Letcher, Governor of Virginia, colonel of the 8th Regiment, and ordered to Leesburg to organize it.
Colonel Hunton was warmly supported by all the officers and soon had a regiment of splendid soldiers, commanded by intelligent and gallant officers of the line.
Hunton was ordered to march down the Petersburg pike till he struck the enemy, and retook the line.

Brigadier-General Eppa Hunton was born September 23, 1823, in Fauquier county, Va. The Huntons originally settled in New England, but the ancestor of General Hunton removed at an early period to Lancaster county, Va., where his great-grandfather, William Hunton, married Judith Kirk, and afterward made his home in Fauquier county.
The senior Eppa Hunton was in the service of his country during the war of 1812, at Bladensburg and Craney island, and as a brigade inspector of the Virginia militia.
At Sailor's creek the division recaptured Huger's artillery and repulsed the assaults of Custer.

The name Eppa Hunton was closely identified with the 8th Virginia Regiment throughout it's nearly four years of service.
Hunton was Colonel of the 8th from the organization until August 1863, then served as commander of the brigade in which the regiment served until three days before Appomattox.
He was described by a contemporary as:" one who had none of the arts of the orator, except that of earnestness and candor, and a view of strong common sense in all that he said." Ill health plagued him throughout the war.

In 1875 John Singleton Mosby, the Confederate ranger, purchased the house.
Mosby, with his Partisans outwitted the Union army during the Civil War to the extent that much of northern Virginia was known as "Mosby's Confederacy." Mosby sold the house in 1877 to former Confederate general Eppa Hunton, who was then serving in Congress.
Brentmoor was the childhood home of Eppa Hunton III, a founder of the prominent Richmond law firm Hunton and Williams.
