Epsilon is defined as the distance from the mean prediction to the actual spectrum, in terms of number of standard deviations.
If you are considering epsilon values before you have selected records for analysis, you might try to choose records with epsilon values that match the disaggregation from your hazard analysis, in the same way that today we select records to match the magnitudes and distances from disaggregation.

 The Epsilon Calculus
This includes a discussion of the first and second epsilon theorems with applications to first-order logic, the epsilon substitution method for arithmetic with open induction, and a development of analysis (that is, second-order arithmetic) with the epsilon calculus.

Reading the epsilon operator as an indefinite choice operator ("an x such that A(x)") suggests that it might be a useful tool in the analysis of indefinite and definite noun phrases in formal semantics.

Epsilon Calculi [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Epsilon Calculi are extended forms of the predicate calculus that incorporate epsilon terms.
Epsilon terms were introduced by the german mathematician David Hilbert, in Hilbert 1923, 1925, to provide explicit definitions of the existential and universal quantifiers, and resolve some problems in infinitistic mathematics.
Epsilon calculi, during this period, were developed without any semantics, but a semantic interpretation was produced by Gunter Asser in 1957, and subsequently published in a book by A.C. Leisenring, in 1969.

I first wrote a traditional "Epsilon" equation for the HP-17BII, but I realized that the number storage was not the standard binary floating point, but rather some form of binary-coded-decimal.
The new equation yields the correct result for the HP-17BII; the Epsilon is 5.00000000001e-12 (twelve digits in the mantissa).

 Computational Statistics: Clustering
The regression depth of a given hyperplane (measured as a fraction of the size of the overall data set) is within epsilon of the regression depth of the hyperplane relative to an epsilon-approximation of the data.
Further, the deepest plane with respect to the approximation must be within epsilon of the deepest plane for the overall data set, so we can approximate the depth of the deepest plane to within any (1-epsilon) factor in linear total time [SW98].
This is equivalent to finding the closest pair of points in the convex hulls of the two sides (note this is not the same as the closest pair of data points) since the separating plane is the perpendicular bisector of the segment between these two points.
