The Praesepe was called by the Arabians al-ma'laf, a stall or den; and also al-nathrah, the fissure between the Lion's whiskers, - a district which formed the VIIIth Lunar Mansion.
An occult line projected from Spica under Regulus, and about 22deg beyond the latter, rund through Praesepe; or it may be found by a ray from the Pleiades being brought mid-way between Procyon and Castor, which will pass over Epsilon, in Castor's knee.

I counted approximately 50 stars and noted one very colorful golden, more yellowish than orange, star: 39 Cancri which was coupled with a brilliant white SAO 80336.
Forming the slightly distorted square of the base of the house were: SAO 98030, SAO 98032, SAO 98021, and Epsilon 41 Cancri.
Forming the triangular roof of the house were SAO 98021 and Epsilon 41 Cancri which marked the top of the square and the base of the triangle.

Alpha Cancri is Acubens, Beta is Ai Tarf, Gamma and Delta are known respectively as Asellus Borealis and Asellus australis.
Epsilon Cancri and the surrounding stars constitute M44 or the Praesepe (Beehive) Galactic Open Cluster, whilst Zeta Cancri, the only other star with a proper name, is Tegmine
