Epsilon Indi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As seen from Epsilon Indi, the Sun is a 2nd-magnitude star in Ursa Major, near the bowl of the Big Dipper.
Epsilon Indi has the second highest proper motion (second only to 61 Cygni) of any naked eye star, or possibly the third highest since the magnitude 6.4 Groombridge 1830 is a naked eye star under exceptionally dark skies.
Epsilon Indi is held by many Star Trek fans to be the home star system of the Andorian race.

 Epsilon Indi
Discovered in 2003, this brown dwarf, Epsilon Indi Ba, has a mass of 40 to 60 times the mass of Jupiter and a surface temperature of about 1,260 K. Shortly after its discovery, Epsilon India Ba was found to have an orbital companion of its own—a cooler, fainter brown dwarf known as Epsilon Indi Bb.
Epsilon Indi Ba and Bb are members of a recently discovered type of astronomical object—the "T" class brown dwarfs.
Epsilon Indi has the tenth highest proper motion of any known star.

Epsilon Indi B has a mass just 45 times that of Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, and a surface temperature of only 1000 °C. It belongs to the so-called 'T dwarf' category of objects which straddle the domain between stars and giant planets.
Epsilon Indi B is the nearest and brightest T dwarf known.
However, it may be assumed that the age of Epsilon Indi B is the same as that of Epsilon Indi A, whose age is estimated to be 1.3 billion years based on its rotational speed.

Epsilon was terraformed by some of the earliest interstellar colonisation ventures (Mars Interstellar, Kelkemesh Ventures and Eridani Vision Inc.) in the Nanotech Window, after a period of initial disagreements forming the Eridanus League to oversee the terraforming and administration.
To their credit, the military forces organized by the Epsilon Eridani council to defend other worlds never used their armaments to force defecting worlds to return to the fold, and even in the crisis years there were surprisingly few attempts by the SCS commanders to alter the local balance of power during inter-colony disputes.
The various colonies in the E Indi Provisional Confederacy willingly joined the League except for several Christian-cultist and Ecopagan compounds located on planetoids in the outer belts.
