Equitation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Equitation classes occur in the Hunt seat, Saddleseat, Dressage, and Western disciplines.
Western equitation competitions are judged at the walk, sitting jog, and lope in both directions, and perform a reinback.
In a Western equitation class you may be asked to perform riding patterns such as, transitions from halt to lope or lope to halt, a figure-8 at the lope with simple or flying change, serpentines at the lope with flying changes, the rein back, a 360 degree turn (spin), and the roll back.

Sportsmanship is paramount in the field of equitation.
Subtle verbal communication between rider and horse is encouraged in equitation classes; however, this communication should not be so loud as to be distracting to other exhibitors or ring personnel.
However, at this time the equitation division is tolerant of and will allow contrasting derbies, ties, boots, hat bands, vest and gloves, but the key word to remember when considering them is conservative.

 AGING AND EXERCISE
In aerobic events, performance usually peaks in the mid-twenties, as gains from prolonged training, improved mechanical skills and competitive experience are negated by decreases in maximal oxygen intake and flexibility.
Because of a longer plateauing of muscle strength, performance in anaerobic events declines less steeply, and in pursuits such as golf and equitation, where experience is paramount, the best competitors are aged 30-40 years.
Caution is needed in drawing physiological inferences from athletic records, since the pool of potential competitors decreases with age.
