In the movie, Vanessa Williams is a high-ranking executive with a defense contractor.
Kruger is an "eraser", a man who is charged with erasing all evidence of a person's current life and re-establishing them somewhere else as someone else to ensure their safety.
Eraser is a movie consisting primarily of chase scenes as Kruger tries desperately to keep his witness safe until the trial, running all the while from the people who want nothing more than to silence the witness and, eventually, Kruger as well.

`Eraser' Softens Arnold / Schwarzenegger tries to inject some humanity into his acting
In ``Eraser'' Schwarzenegger is not his usual buffed sadist with the severe haircut and weird accent, taking advantage of weak people who just happen to have annoyed the government.
What's not fun in ``Eraser'' is the weapon it showcases, a fictional ``rail gun'' that locates the outlines of a living target through walls and fires an aluminum beam.
It's the typical elements that make ``Eraser'' no more than a solid bit of fluff: This is one of those movies where good guys don't miss, and bad guys can't shoot to save their lives.

But, Eraser falls under suspicion as the traitor and soon finds himself on the run to save Cullen, the one woman who holds the key to the truth.
Movie industry insiders are predicting that Eraser will become a summer blockbuster hit largely because of the chemistry between Williams and Schwarzenegger.

Times & Free Press Movie Reviews: "Eraser"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
"Eraser" is a cinematic stew -- a cup of "Terminator 2," a heaping tablespoon of "The Net," a teaspoon of "Lethal Weapon" and a pinch each of "Speed," "The Pelican Brief" and "Three Days of the Condor."
That said, "Eraser" definitely works as what it is -- an exciting conspiracy adventure with cool gadgets, absolutely superior action sequences, a luminous Vanessa Williams and even a requisite Ah-nold catchphrase.
"Eraser," which might well be subtitled "Arnold and Vanessa Run From Everyone," casts Schwarzenegger as John Kruger, a crack U.S. marshal with the Witness Protection Program.

 Kinnopio's Movie Reviews - Eraser
The plot bears a resemblance to a construct of the latter author, involving scheming and intrigue between defense contractors and high-ranking heads of state in Washington, DC.
Of course, it's almost required these days for an action movie to make some attempt at pretending it's not, but no one involved has the intelligence or the foresight to develop the theme.
Eraser is not a suspense movie, it's not a technothriller, and it's not a mystery movie.

Eraser is notable as the last Arnold Schwarzenegger film, up until Terminator 3 at least, that I saw in a cinema.
Jim Cameron teamed up with Arnie for the Bond movie parody True Lies and managed to capture some of their old Terminator magic, though to this day I maintain the movie’s success is largely down to Jamie Lee Curtis’ impromptu pole dance.
The movie hit cinemas in the summer of 1996 in the wake of several major hits.

 All-Reviews.com Movie/Video Review: Eraser
That movie only had three action sequences amid a sea of unintelligible plot, whereas ERASER has almost wall-to-wall action and a plot Arnold himself could follow.
Williams even does a decent job of acting, although all that's required of her is nervousness at the beginning, distress in the middle and loving admiration of Arnold at the end.
It doesn't have an incredible amount of originality and its attempts at seriousness are met with as many laughs as the comic relief scenes, but ERASER is a constantly entertaining no-brainer that provides two hours of escape from the oppressive heat and boredom of summer.

Since the movie had already been shot, the relevant dialogue was dubbed over and company logos were digitally altered during post-production.

Eraser DVD Movie Review by AceGamez
Eraser is no different and in my opinion that's a good thing, as this time Arnie plays a special operative in the U.S. Marshals' office, responsible for erasing the past lives of people in the witness protection program and setting them up with new ones.
Eraser features a good storyline that isn't too complicated but has enough twists and turns to keep your interest.
Eraser is a by-the-numbers action film and the perfect vehicle for Arnie, but with a few original concepts thrown in, not least of which are the futuristic EMP weapons that feature quite heavily in the story.

 Eraser - Review - Moviefone
Eraser is more or less what you expect, two hours of mindless nonstop high-tech action, with preposterous situations, a body count in the dozens, and Arnold introducing a new trademark line of dialogue (it's supposed to be "Trust me," but I think "You're luggage" will win on points).
Eraser means to show off the star's standard persona against a backdrop of lavish special effects, which is certainly a formula that's worked before.
Eraser does have a few big-ticket stunts that hold the attention, but director Charles Russell, fresh from "The Mask," isn't able to infuse them with the intensity and believability that James Cameron brought to comparable sequences in "True Lies."

There was a director who once said to Roger Ebert that in order for a movie to be great, it has to have at least three good scenes and no bad scenes.
The one-liners (Arnold's trademark) were fast and funny, the action was the best of any Schwarzennegar film in history, and Pastorelli was great as the Mafioso- witness who was helped by Schwarzennegar in the beginning of the film, providing even more comic relief.
That being said, I would never pay to watch this movie as you can see it many times on cable etc, but I would not have complained if I had paid money at the theater....

One of Arnold's keys to his successful career in films was simply that his movies were entertaining, and that's why people come to the theaters.
Entertainment alone is how this particular movie survives since common logic doesn't exist while violence and profanity are overdone.

Eraser just happens to be the first movie I took my wife (then wife-to-be) to see.
A good action flick, Schwartzenegger does all right and Vanessa Williams is easy to look at, and the story is kind of smart and interesting, so see it if it comes on TNT or something, but don't go out and spend money to rent it or sit through it.
The last line of the movie, "He caught a train", after the villain is crushed by a locamotive took this down from a respectable 5.5 to a contemptuous 4.5.
