  Ered Gorgoroth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien, the Ered Gorgoroth or Mountains of Terror were a mountain chain in the north of Beleriand.
The Ered Gorgoroth was the southern edge of the highlands of Dorthonion, and separated Dorthonion and the northlands of Ard-galen from Beleriand proper.
South of the Gorgoroth lies the unpopulated land of Nan Durgotheb (the Valley of Dreadful Death).

The Ered Gorgoroth (Mountains of Terror) formed the southern boundary of Dorthonion, bending to the north on the east side to create the Pass of Aglon between Dorthonion and Hills of Himring.
The upper reaches of the River Sirion passed between the western slopes of Dorthonion and the Ered Wethrin (Mountains of Shadow).
Along with the other lands east of the Ered Luin, Taur-nu-Fuin was mostly destroyed in the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age.

Narchost and Carchost were the two Towers of the Teeth that stood above the Morannon where the Ephel Dúath met the Ered Lithui in the northwest of Mordor.
The Elvish names of mountain ranges typically contain the word ered, the plural of orod, 'mountain' (as in Ered Gorgoroth, Ered Lithui, Ered Luin, and many other examples).
The name was also applied to the far northern range known in Elvish as the Ered Wethrin, though those northern mountains had been lost beneath the Sea at the end of the First Age.
