Eric is a singularly inept sorcerer who conjures up an even more inept wizard, Rincewind, and a sentient (also treacherous, vindictive, and unruly) footlocker named, of course, the Luggage.
The trouble with the novel Eric, is that it was originally printed as a graphic novel, with paragraphs accompanied with large illustrations by Josh Kirby, and as such made much more sense (and had a much lighter tone than a normal Discworld book did).
Eric is a play on the Faust concept; you can tell because the word Faust is crossed out and replaced with Eric right there on the cover of the book.

Eric (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Left alone, Rincewind is disheartened to learn that the spells to confine the demon summoned are working on him; Eric's parrot tells him that because he was summoned as a demon, he is subject to the same terms.
Eric's demands are renewed; when Rincewind protests that he can't just snap his fingers to give Eric what he wants, he is shocked to find that snapping his fingers does give a puff of smoke, and more so to find himself, Eric, luggage and the parrot floating over the Disc.
Eric is disappointed to find that it has been a long siege, and Elenor is now a plump mother of several children, with the beginnings of a moustache, and that artistic licence had been taken in her description.

 Review: Discworld 2
Discworld books are extremely hard to classify--at first they might appear to be fantasy novels, but that's only a disguise.
If you do know Discworld, however, you are aware of the fact that Rincewind is one of the least magical persons in existence and is only a wizard because he wears a pointy hat and a dress.
Eric Idle makes Rincewind sound like the complete failure he is, always whining about something and prevailing in the end only due to some strange twist of fate.

 DISCWorld Performance Analysis
In contrast to the remote clients using RMI and DISCWorld, which were measured using a fast (100Mbps) network, the results of the remote retrieval from the DISCWorld cache are across a slow (10Mbps) network.
As the DISCWorld daemon (and client program) are written in pure Java, we must rely on the mechanisms provided within the Java language specification [88] and the Java Runtime Environment [218] for robustness and fault tolerance.
As implemented, the DISCWorld prototype has two major failings: the store fills very quickly, which causes the daemon to crash; and, if the daemon fails while parsing or executing a processing request, the request is forgotten when the daemon is restarted.

With them on his side, Eric's in for a ride through space and time that is bound to make him wish (quite fervently) again - this time that he'd never been born.
This is the shortest Discworld book so maybe that, coupled with the fact that the Rincewind books were at this point being spread out more helps to keep him interesting.

When Eric, a thirteen-year-old demonology hacker, tries to conjure a demon to grant him three wishes, he is surprised to find he has conjured the inept wizard Rincewind.
And while "Eric" has its fair share of demons, they are humorous rather than diabolical, which is something the plot could use a small shake of.

Eric is a reasonably amusing Discworld book, and there's nothing spectacularly wrong with it, but it does suffer from one major drawback - it's short.
In fact at about half the length of the average Discworld novel this is very lacking in depth, and feels more like a novella, or one of Pratchett's children's titles.
The reason for this is that Eric was originally published as a large format illustrated book, in the same manner as Pratchett's later The Last Hero, but for some mysterious reason is now only available as a text only paperback.
