Bogle may be best known for his "Green Fields of France" (actually composed as "No Man's Land") and "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" as recorded by other artists, but his range is much wider and it is amazing how many people hear him sing and say "Did he write that one, too?"

Bogle played his acoustic guitar, Munro sang in the introduction that he played guitar, banjo and mandolin adding, "And I can play the bagpipes, but I won't."

Sound Bytes music review: Eric Bogle.
Before ever I heard Eric Bogle, I heard his songs performed at the local folk club by singers who are more prone to sing Stan Rogers or very old English ballads than this type of music.
It may be of interest to know, though, that in the liner notes Bogle announces that he has written to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) requesting protection for this species but has not yet heard back from them.
Although in the song Bogle describes the accent as Scottish-Aussie twang, the feel is pure American hillbilly.

Eric Bogle was born in Scotland, but now lives in Australia.
Speculating on Bogle's mention of "Gin": Since the 'narrator' of 'Now I'm Easy' was obviously born at the beginning of the 20th century (having 2 sons die on the Burma Railway), "gin" in the Zeitgeist of that period might not have had the absolutely negative connotation it has now, in our more "enlightened" times.
