Pink flamingos are not generally known for their skills with yo-yos, but for director Eric Goldberg the music of Saint-Saëns provided a wealth of ideas for just such an improbable scenario.

For those that don’t know, Eric is responsible for supervising the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, co-directing Disney’s Pocahontas, animating Phil in Hercules, and with his wife Susan as art director, wrote, animated and directed two critically-acclaimed sequences in Fantasia 2000 – Carnival of the Animals and Rhapsody in Blue.

In any case, Eric was always very encouraging to me and then they turned me down and it was like pulling teeth to find out why, and these are the reasons he gave me.
Eric Larson was in the audience and Brad Bird goes over to him and he says, [impersonating Bird's voice] "So, you like that guy's stuff, right?" "Uh-huh." "You think he's pretty good, right?" "Yeah." And Brad grabs him by the shirt collar and goes, "And you let him leave, man!!"

He sent an e-mail to Roy Disney saying, "We'd like to bring Eric Goldberg back to be Eric Goldberg." And Roy Disney e-mailed back, "Good casting." Basically they're having me back as an all-purpose animation guru.

I recently had the pleasure and honor of sitting down with ERIC GOLDBERG, the master animator of the Genie in Aladdin, the director of Rhapsody in Blue and Carnival of the Animals in Fantasia2000, and most recently, the animation supervisor for Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
In short, he talks about his utmost hero Chuck Jones, his mentor Richard Williams, and his experiences w/ CG and traditional from Roger Rabbit 2 to resurrecting the beloved Looney Tunes characters.
I'll end this by saying that Eric was such a pleasure to interview.

It is of course a legacy almost impossible to surmount, but the miracle is that at times they achieve it.
Eric Goldberg's animated versions of "Rhapsody in Blue" and Carnival of the Animals", hit the mark perfectly and the Brizzi brothers electrifying adaptation of the Firebird Suite has rightly been referred to as the 'Sistine Chapel' of Disney animation.
Other segments, such as "Pines of Rome" and "Pomp and Circumstance" (Fantasia 2000's answer to "The Sorcerers Apprentice") fair less well and the interstitials are more frivolous that the original.
