The Illustrious Art of Eric Rohmann
Despite that revelation, Rohmann decided he wanted to be a veterinarian, which seemed to make sense for a young man whose past was haunted by Godzilla, giant Guatemala-bound birds and smarter-than-him chimps.
By the mid-'90s, Rohmann's groove was going strong, and the result was his first children's book, "Time Flies," which eschewed any text whatsoever in its tale of a bird, a dinosaur skeleton, a museum and the consequences of the bird flying through the dinosaur's bony mouth.

Leave it to Caldecott-winning illustrator Eric Rohmann to exactly capture the touching, transporting beauty of a girl hugging a fish.
In fact, Rohmann may have some practice at it, having arranged a repeat performance of sorts with Asha here (the fishy friend in Clara and Asha), so similar is she to her smiling piscine counterpart in 1997's wonderfully dreamy Cinder-Eyed Cats.
To call Asha a "flying" fish would be a misnomer--Asha properly floats, as she does from the beginning of this book when she drifts in through the bedroom window of Clara, a pony-tailed girl who can't bring herself to fall asleep.

There's something very old-fashioned about Eric Rohmann's Caldecott-winning illustrations in "My Friend Rabbit." The think outlined forms, simple fl eyes, and wide-open compositions recall the best of early Disney and other period animation.

Rohmann finishes with Mouse's thoughts about the Wild One; perhaps this is how Badger, Mole, and River Rat tolerated Toad's madder moments.
