As most of BTTF fans know, Eric Stoltz was originally cast for the role of Marty Mcfly when Spielberg and Zemeckis were unsuccessful in landing Michael J. Fox.
Stoltz was eventually replaced by Fox after Spielberg and Zemeckis agreed he wasn't giving them what they wanted in the character.
From what I understand, the filming with Stoltz was considerable, like 80% of the film, and some of the scenes filmed with him are apparently still in the film (some of the double Marty McFlys at the photomat scenes).
