 koreahn's Xanga Site
Note here that Eric's comment is defending his membership to the blogring "Why Yes, I do dance around in my underwear." Unfortunately, I should have clarified my point a bit further.
My rant was directed at those shallow folk, who insist on joining such blogrings, or go scantily clad to nightclubs, with the hope of inciting some sort of erotic or sensual feeling from their peers, yet lament their inability to find a person less frisky than an unneutered bulldog.
In that regard, I suppose the "unwholesomeness" from Eric, would cause others to gouge their eyes out, repeatedly hit themselves over the head with a hammer, and set one's head on fire, to hopefully and literally burn the obscene image out from their minds.

Hailed as one of a group of "new intellectuals," scholar Michael Eric Dyson is a longtime professor and lecturer, and an author who addresses issues of race and culture in such diverse publications as Christian Century and Rolling Stone.
"Gangsta rap often reaches higher than its ugliest, lowest common denominator," he noted, adding that "misogyny, violence, materialism and sexual transgression are not its exclusive domain.
Instead of using the traditional biographical format to explore the life of the gangsta rapper, Dyson employs a series of essays on topics such as family relations, street violence, education, and religion to explore the world that Shakur has created through his lyrics and his public image.

Robert Christgau: Inside Dope: Michael Eric Dyson's "Between God and Gangsta Rap"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Michael Eric Dyson is one of a fast-growing cohort of African-American essayists who set themselves the thankless if rarely unprofitable task of pondering the nation's fast-growing racial crisis.
Like most of them, he's an academic whose career in letters is based more on the insights at his disposal than raw literary ability, and like several of them, he has sometimes been an embarrassingly clumsy stylist.
His frequent comments on popular culture rarely reach deep, but have the virtue of promulgating truths that ought to be more obvious than they are--for instance, that gangsta rap is both noxiously sexist and a calculated offense against a complacent fl bourgeoisie.

It stirs the emotions, clarifies thought, moves the heart with its intimacies, incites the passions with its love of humanity, and animates the spirit with its breathtaking implicit conception of religion.
A former welfare father from the ghetto of Detroit, Michael Eric Dyson is today a critic, scholar, and ordained Baptist minister who has forged a unique role: he is a compelling spokesman for the concerns of the fl community, and also a leader who has a genuine rapport with that community, particularly with urban youth.
Arguing that the richness of fl culture today can be found in the interstices--between god and gangsta' rap--Dyson charts the progress and pain of African Americans over the past decade, showing that brilliance and beauty, pain and drudgery are components of this changing culture.

Michael Eric Dyson is a critic, scholar, and ordained Baptist minister who has forged a unique role: he is a compelling spokesman for the concerns of the fl community, particularly with urban youth.
Dyson's passion for contemporary fl culture informs Between God and Gangsta Rap, his latest foray into the ongoing debate about African-American identity which embraces the hopes of the church and the cool reality of hip-hop.
Arguing that the richness of fl culture today can be found in the interstices — between god and gangsta rap — Dyson brings together writings on music, religion, politics, and identity to offer a muti-faceted view of fl life.

Self-Destructive Tendencies: The 'Gangsta Rap' Industry   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
However, some defenders of the "gangsta rap" industry stubbornly refuse to enterta in even the possibility of a link.
While the editors defe nd some of the most corrosive music against even corporate self-censorship, a read of the magazine leaves the reader wondering whether the editors had done the same.
Though the editors of Rolling Stone remain in steadfast denial, the world of "gangsta rap" is clearly not divorced from the real life "gangsta" world of the Bloods and the Crips and neither, it seems, can either be characterized, as one recent hit song declared, a "Gangsta Paradise".

CD reviews: "The Original Ellington Suite," "We Got it Good And That Ain't Bad" and "Classic Ellington"
This session, featuring nine Ellington compositions, had never been released — it seems the record company executives were put off by reedman Eric Dolphy's unconventional approach to the Duke's music.
Of course, as the intervening years have brought us not only the free jazz movement, but punk rock and gangsta rap as well, Eric Dolphy's playing seems far less threatening than it apparently did 43 years ago.
Instead of coming off as grating or distracting, Dolphy's playing on songs like "In a Sentimental Mood" seems to bring new color and contrasts to Ellington's writing, elements Ellington may not have suspected he included.
