		Because we were in need of a phylogeny of the ‘balsaminoid group’ at the base of the order Ericales, I made the exercise of looking into ‘hierarchical model’ Bayesian analysis to investigate the relationships in the order Ericales using some new data, but mainly Genbank data.
		Ericales phylogeny reconstruction has not really lack of data, but a polytomy at the base of the order has been very difficult to resolve.
		The two families are part of the basal Ericales ‘balsaminoid group’, which has been found in several phylogenetic analyses of molecular data with high support values.

		The distribution of aluminium (Al) accumulation in the Ericales is surveyed, based on semi-quantitative tests of 114 species and literature data.
		Although the interfamilial relationships within the Ericales require further research, the ability to accumulate high levels of Al appears to show considerable taxonomic significance.
