Bedard was criticized for having a high pitch count (19.5 pitches/inning), forcing him to frequently make early exits from ballgames, and he was criticized for lacking a third type of pitch.
Under the tutelage of pitching coach Ray Miller, who rejoined the Orioles in the middle of the 2004 season, Bedard refined his control of the change-up (his third pitch) to go along with his 91-93 mph fastball and slurve.

Thus, while I'm enjoying Bedard's run, I've got to think that he can't keep his walks this low all year -- particularly as the season wears on and he racks up the IP, he's probably going to slide back at least a little in that department (maybe a lot -- that's the pessimistic forecast).
If the Orioles make the playoffs and someone like Erik Bedard is a prime reason for it, then he will definitely merit some mention.
