Erik Trolle (died 1530), elected regent of Sweden, under the Kalmar Union, in 1512.
Erik Trolle was born around 1460 and was apparently aiming at a clerical career.
Trolle was elected regent (riksföreståndare) at the meeting of the Privy Council of Sweden in 1512, but never actually took office.

 Sten Sture the Younger
After his father's death he was elected regent by the majority of the lesser gentry to the exclusion of the candidate of the high aristocratic faction, Erik Trolle, whence the inextinguishable hatred of the two families.
In 1513 the aged archbishop of Uppsala, Jakob Ulfsson, resigned in favor of Gustaf Trolle, son of Erik Trolle, who was elected by the cathedral chapter and recommended to the pope by the regent on condition that the new archbishop should do him homage.
On the return of Trolle from Rome he refused to do homage to the regent until all his enemies had been punished, and allied himself with Christian II of Denmark, who hastened to the archbishop's assistance when Sture besieged Trolle in his stronghold at Stäke (1516).

After seizing power, the previous Archbishop Gustav Trolle, who at the time held to a post of some kind of chancellor, was exiled from the country.
As the Pope refused to budge on the issue of Gustav Trolle, the king, influenced by Lutheran scholar Olaus Petri, in 1531 took it upon himself to appoint a new archbishop, namely the brother of Olaus, Laurentius Petri.

Union king ERIK OF POMERANIA had been by the nobility of Sweden in 1439, by the nobility of Denmark also in 1439.
Erik had moved to the island of Gotland, where he continued to rule, claiming to be King of both Denmark and Sweden, until 1449.
Erik sold out the fortress and his claim to the crown to Christian, and at night Danish soldiers sneaked into the fortress; the Swedes evacuated the island and Gotland again was under Danish control.

In 1397 Margaret caused her grand-nephew Erik to be crowned King at Kalmar; and on that occasion there was concluded, by nobles representing the three kingdoms, the famous Union of Kalmar, by which Sweden, Norway, and Denmark were declared to be for ever united under one King, each retaining its own laws and customs.
Thereupon Sten Sture and the Rigsraad resolved that Trolle should be no longer recognised as Archbishop, and that he should be imprisoned and his castle razed to the ground.
The nine years of Gustavus' son and successor Erik XIV (1560-9), for some time the suitor of Elizabeth of England, were years of disaster for the Swedish State, and not less so for the Church.
