  MYTH MAN'S FURIES PAGE
Portrayed with and without wings, the Erinnyes in time became better known as those responsible for avenging offenses by children against their mothers, and eventually came to be the divine punishers - along with Zeus - of anyone who committed perjury or patricide (killing of one's father).
As their influence spread, the Erinnyes became the personification of the concepts of vindictiveness and retribution (also see Nemesis), and represented the psychological torments associated with a guilty conscience.
Oedipus was tortured by the Erinnyes for killing his own father, even though it was in self defense and Oedipus didn't know that the man he slew on the road to Cadmus was his dad.

Athena comes to his defense and persuades the Erinnyes to change their role as bringers of retribution, in favor of new rules as the graceful Eumenides.

MuggleNet | Dementors: More Like Vampires or Erinnyes? - by Marilena and Georgia.
Erinnyes were said to be older than the Gods who dominate with Zeus.
They, like erinnyes, capture the soul into the body and make it think of all the bad moments it had lived (perhaps those while it had been committing the crime); namely, they captured it in its remorse.
Also, like erinnyes, dementors don’t care for the occasions of a crime neither, if the person said to be guilty is really one.

Granted if not much is known about her mythos, in alternate interpretations it could be that she could be one of fifty sisters, but traditionally there are only 3 Erinyes - Alecto, Tisiphone and Megera (or maybe that's just Aeschylus, Robert Graves or Edith Wharton talking).
But since you are talking about Greeks, the Greek spelling given by Liddell and Scott is Delta iota omicron (alternatively omega) nu upsilon sigma omicron sigma.
I'm not sure but I think Robert Graves also makes the Erinnyes antecede all Olympians, precluding a birth from Poseidon.

Triple Goddess - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Triple Goddess symbol, used by Wiccans, in symbolic colors
In ancient Indo-European mythologies, various goddesses or demi-goddesses appear as a triad, either as three separate beings who always appear as a group (the Greek Moirae, Charites, Erinnyes and the Norse Norns) or as a single deity who is commonly depicted in three aspects (The Greek Hecate).
In one hymn, for instance, the "Three-faced Selene" is simultaneously identified as the three Charites, the three Moirae, and the three Erinnyes; she is further addressed by the titles of several goddesses:
