Erith enjoyed a short period as a riverside resort during the middle of the 19th century.
Smaller terraced houses around the town centre were built for the workers employed in the many local industries while larger villas were built on Bexley Road and The Avenue on higher ground away from the centre of the town.
Erith suffered heavily from bombing during the Second World War because of its proximity both to the river and to the Royal Arsenal (see Thamesmead).

Town's poor recent form coupled with the appalling performance at Enfield the previous weekend added to the seemingly relentless form of Grantham and Dorchester made this a "Must win" game - and the boys came up with a performance 100% better than the one that led to the FA Trophy exit.
Erith looked pissed off about the goal as their keeper had gone crashing to the deck - but for a change this didn't result in a free kick which is what usually happens when anyone makes any kind of contact with the keeper.

The history of Erith Town dates from 1959, when the club was originally formed as Woolwich Town FC, a Sunday club who played in the London Metropolitan Sunday League.
With the promise of development at Erith Stadium from the local authority, the club decided to look into representing the community more rather than carry the banner of a team six miles away, and in June 1997 changed their name to Erith Town FC.

A plaque in the new Erith Riverside Shopping Centre now marks the site where members of Erith Town Forum buried a time capsule, on behalf of the town, in September 2004.
The time capsule was buried in the foundations of the shopping centre to celebrate the ongoing redevelopment and regeneration of Erith town centre.
One item, kindly provided by Erith Playhouse, is a free voucher for two people to see a show at the theatre in 50 year's time.

Frederick Adam, a Bricklayer was born 1882 ERITH and immigrated to Australia in 1910.

The Royal Corinthinan Yacht Club originally had it's headquarters at Erith and when it moved to Port Victoria a number of members who were local residents formed the Erith Yacht Club.
Eventually it moved from Erith Town to the present site wher a sucession of Clubships have served as headquarters.
In 1975 on the Seventy Fifth aniversary of the Club a Souvenir Review was produced detailing the history of the Club.
