The Making of the Eritrean Constitution
Of course in the Eritrean case, the common goal was the fight for independence which evidently brings to the surface the common bonds, and would subordinate group demands or grievances to the common purpose.
The majority of Eritreans that participated in the process of constitution making were persuaded by the argument that it is better to leave the question official language open and instead declare the equality of languages, and the Commission felt justified in writing the essence of the argument into the constitution.
The reason why Eritreans living abroad were included in the process of constitution making, both in terms of their participation in the debate and in the Constituent Assembly, is the critical role they played during the armed struggle by providing intellectual, diplomatic and financial resources.

 II Ethiopian Eritrean War, 1998 - 2000
The Eritreans did their best to prepare for defence, and were right in doing so: when on the 4 of May 2000 the peace talks failed because of technicalities of implementing a peace accord, Ethiopian army started its latest attacks.
Eritrean reports about this engagement indicate that they used their old tactics from the 1980s: they would monitor the operations of Ethiopian helicopters and aircraft very carefully, and then move their flaks somewhere along the usual routes.
The Ethiopians, however, concerned of fuelling Eritrean claims that Addis Ababa wants to re-annex whole country, stopped their advance short of this city, instead turning south and marching on Areza: their left hook brought the Eritrean front to collapse and the Ethiopians hoped the message was delivered.

 RESOLUTION OF THE ETHIOPIAN-ERITREAN BORDER
The Eritreans tried to propagandize them, I am sure, but this may have been counterproductive because so much of what the Eritreans claimed was false.
Contrary to conventional journalistic "wisdom", the Eritrean War was not a border war at all.
After the cease-fire the Eritreans spitefully bulldozed the town of Zalambessa, which had a population of 35,000, tore up electric and power lines and carried equipment and even roofing back to Eritrea.

The exiled Eritreans were not against "friendly aid that might remain, irrespective of the possible changes of governments, on the ground to the benefit of our people," Nasser wrote the Dutch Minister.
