Erlangen program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This Erlangen Program (Erlanger Programm) — Klein was then at Erlangen — proposed a new kind of solution to the problems of geometry of the time.
The long-term effects of the Erlangen programme can be seen all over pure mathematics (see tacit use at congruence (geometry), for example); and the idea of transformations and of synthesis using groups of symmetry is of course now standard too in physics.
The Erlangen program can therefore still be considered fertile, in relation with dualities in physics.

Klein geometry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In mathematics, a Klein geometry is a type of geometry motivated by Felix Klein in his influential Erlangen program.
More specifically, it is homogeneous space X together with a transitive action on X by a Lie group G, which acts as the symmetry group of the geometry.
A Klein geometry is a pair (G, H) where G is a Lie group and H is a closed Lie subgroup of G such that the (left) coset space G/H is connected.

She was born in the Bavarian town of Erlangen.
The Erlangen University had been cast into the mathematical spotlight by one of its mathematicians named Felix Klein, who had given significant insights into the concept of a group in geometry, insights which became known as the "Erlangen Program".
Nevertheless Emmy became known while enrolled as an audit student and was able eventually (in 1907) to graduate with a PhD summa cum laude at Erlangen under the supervision of Paul Gordan (whom David Hilbert had described as "King of the Invariants").

Genetic algorithms stress chromosomal operators, genetic programming deals with operators on more general hierarchical structures, evolution strategies emphasize behavioral changes at the level of the individual whereas evolutionary programming stresses behavioral changes at the level of the species.
The common factor underlying all the above approaches to evolutionary computation is the emphasis on an ensemble of solution structures, and the evaluation and evolution of these structures via specialized operators that mimic their biological counterparts, in response to an ever changing environment.

This limitation, of course, does not present a sharp program but it can be made, up to a certain degree, more precise through the enumeration of the admissible intuitive considerations; in any case “pure intuition” in the finer sense should be excluded, e.g.
However, it was the challenges to classical mathematics raised by Weyl in his 1918 Das Kontinuum and by Brouwer with the new “Intuitionist set theory” that acted as a catalyst for Hilbert’s comeback to the area of foundations.
The steps which led to first formulation of the program are documented in the unpublished lecture notes (Hilbert 1920a and b; 1921-22) and have also been studied carefully (Sieg 1999; Zach 2003).

Weyl's Generalization of Klein's Erlangen Program   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
In 1872, F. Klein made an inaugural address at the University of Gottingen which has become known as the Klein Erlangen Program (KEP).
According to Klein, geometry is characterized by its group of symmetries (by symmetry is meant a transformation of space which leaves all objective properties of space invariant) and investigates the mathematical objects which are invariant (simply called "invariants") under this given group.
Weyl said that the program should be able to deal with many different "quantities", not just the quantity which describes the position in space: for example, when passing to physics, many important quantites arise, such as electromagnetic fields, gravitational fields, velocity fields and so on.
