The Erlenmeyer flask used to approximate the Klein analog was obtained from Fischer Scientific (Pittsburgh, PA), model 4980, 500 mL Pyrex.
Given that the original volume of the Erlenmeyer flask is 500 cm3, this must be corrected to account for the volume of the neck, which is approximately 110 ml, so the total volume would be 610 cm3.
This is probably due to the greater accuracy involved with measuring the additional volume of the flask neck, vs. the assumption of a conical shape, as in method 1.

The conical shape allows the contents to be swirled or stirred during an experiment (as is required in titration); the narrow neck keeps the contents from spilling.
Erlenmeyer flasks are also used for titration and in microbiology for the preparation of microbial cultures.

 Laboratory Incidents:  Glass Vessel Rupture
However, its nalgene erlenmeyer flask is not seemless and is thus not recommended for use under vacuum.
The flask was set in a fume hood in a cooling bath designed to lower the experiment temperature to -85° C, 15° C below that which is normally used for such experiments.
Thinking the flask might have developed a crack, the laboratory worker removed the flask from the vacuum line and was defrosting it under warm water in the sink, holding it and examining it, when the flask ruptured.

When the oxygen in the flask is consumed, the flame extinguishes, and the air inside the flask cools.
The partial vacuum in the flask is created by the decrease in air pressure caused by the rapid drop in temperature when the flame extinguishes.

 Erlenmeyer Flask -- Tran 89 (10): 4827 -- Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism
These inverted conical flasks were invented in 1861 by the German chemist Emil Richard August Carl Erlenmeyer (1825–1909) and have been used ubiquitously in laboratories throughout the world.
Erlenmeyer was the first chemist to synthesize tyrosine, guanidine, creatine, and creatinine (3).
In 1880, the Erlenmeyer rule indicated that all alcohols in which the hydroxyl group was attached directly to a double-bonded carbon atom became aldehydes or ketones.

 Review of "The Erlenmeyer Flask"
At last we have Chris Carter's personal philosophy spelled out for us literally in the tagline: it's a cold world out there, one where enemies wear a friendly face and even a friend can be suspect.
"The Erlenmeyer Flask" opens with a car chase straight out of "Bullitt", follows with police beating a suspect a la Rodney King (complete with ineffective taser shot), and includes such ripped-from-the-headlines story elements as the Human Genome project, and toxic blood overpowering a paramedical team.
Some of the elements are too pat, too convenient: Mulder's discovery of the most crucial clue, the Purity Control flask, being the most obvious.
