Erna Berger (Soprano) - Short Biography
Erna Berger, Germany's most well-known coloratura soprano of the last fe wdecades, indeed proved to have extraordinary musical talent even at a very early age.
At the age of seventeen, Erna happened to have the chance, through a friend of the family, to sing to Elisabeth Rethberg, the famous soprano, who immediately recognized her exceptional gift and advised her to join the Dresden Opera Chorus, where she would receive a thorough training with no extra costs involved.
Erna Berger sang over 30 different roles at the Berlin State Opera House, including the Queen of the Night, Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, and her fame was now spreading abroad.

Concertos for 1, 2, 3, & 4 Harpsichords and String Orchestra by Antonio Janigro at jsbach.org
Erna Heiller, harpsichord (Cembalo II in BWV 1060-5)
This is very much a "state of the art" performance, musically speaking, of these three concertos at the time they were recorded (1958), and they are still thoroughly creditable in a way that some other contemporaneous recordings (e.g., Glenn Gould's) are not.
There is also a minor gaffe in the tracking of CD 2, in that the second and third movements of BWV 1065 are incorrectly divided (track 11 ends after measure 15 of the Largo, which then continues in track 12 along with the concluding Allegro).

Classics Today.com - Your Online Guide to Classical Music
From the applause on this disc of Erna Berger's 1962 Liederabend for North German Radio, the audience has no trouble doing so--nor, for most of this recital, do I. The opening set of arie antiche by Pergolesi, Caccini, Veracini, and Scarlatti goes well, Berger's voice barely hinting that it's a 61-year-old instrument.
But then, this is material that older singers often turn to for comfort, both theirs and their audience's.
The technical facility that once made her the Queen of the Night of choice in the 1930s and '40s is frayed, as demonstrated by sketchy trills in J.C. Bach's "Midst silent shades", which like the Handel is sung in good English.

German coloratura soprano Erna Sack (1898-1972) sang in her local church choir, studied at the Prague Conservatory and later in Berlin, working with tenor Oscar Daniel whose students also included Maria Cebotari, Herbert Janssen and Göta Ljungberg (Sachs musically had little in common with these fine singers).

 IV by Godsmack CD
The band's sound, which draws from both traditional heavy metal and hard-hitting grunge-era acts like Alice in Chains, has remained largely consistent since their 1997 debut, and IV continues that pattern.
Crunching distortion, snaky riffs, and thunderous rhythms make up the bulk of the sound, while Sully Erna's gruff, sometimes drone-oriented singing (which certainly owes a debt to Alice in Chains' Layne Staley) creates an evocative counter-balance.
But while IV may not overflow with musical reinvention, it boasts the strongest batch of songs the band has written since their debut.
