Ernest Octavius BARNARD was born 17th May 1890 and died 24th January 1963 aged 75, he was buried at Stowmarket.
The eight children that I know of were the offspring of William Fenn BARNARD b.05/12/1849 at Combs, a gardener of Bulls Row in 1881 aged 31, gardener of 5 Bulls Cottage Churchyard in 1891 aged 41, gardener in 1913, died 07/05/1931 at Stowmarket aged 81, buried at Stowmarket and his wife Sarah Ann BONE b.

Barnard was sports editor of a Columbus, Ohio, newspaper when he joined the club as road secretary in 1904.
He became president of the club in 1922 and in 1928 succeeded Ban Johnson as president of the AL, a position he held until his death.
December 13, 1927: Senators president Clark Griffith gains approval to have Washington open the American League season one day before the rest of the league, to celebrate a "National Day" with the U.S. president throwing out the first ball.

1930 - Ernest Barnard completes his three-year contract as president of the American League.
Among Barnard's innovations have been the establishment of an umpire's school and the recodifying of the rule book.
He also led the effort to eliminate the sacrifice fly scoring rule - with inflated batting averages resulting from the livelier baseball, the batter no longer needed the benefit of not being charged a time at bat when his fly ball advanced a runner.

Together with her three daughters - Elizabeth, Ann and Sarah Ann - Elizabeth sailed from Southampton on the CONSTANT on 8 November 1854 and arrived at Portland in Victoria on 22 February 1855 (the CONSTANT went on to Port Phillip Bay where it sank during a storm two weeks later).
Also on board were Ann and the younger Elizabeth's husbands Samuel Coxall (1834-1926) and Joseph Barnard (1832-1904), and Joseph and Elizabeth's young son Finkell Barnard (1852-1937).
Joseph Barnard died at Hawthorn in 1904 and, according to Rose Parkin, is buried in the Boroondara cemetery next to his second wife Sarah Ann.
