Ernest H. Volwiler (August 22, 1893-1992) spent his entire career at Abbott Laboratories working his way from staff chemist to CEO.
A Hamilton, Ohio native, Volwiler received a bachelor's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Masters degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois.
Volwiler was an active comunity leader and philanthropist serving, among others, on the boards of Lake Forest College and the Phi Kappa Tau Foundation.

Born in Hamilton, Ohio, Volwiler received his elementary education in the Ohio public school system.
There he became director of research in 1930, was promoted to vice president in 1933, to executive vice president in 1946, to president in 1950, to chairman of the board in 1958, and he became chairman of the board of Abbott Laboratories International in 1959.
