Brown was made a fellow of Christ's College in 1889, and received his Masters degree in 1891.
In 1907, Brown was appointed Professor of Mathematics at Yale University.
Brown's Tables were adopted by nearly all of the national ephemerides in 1923 for their calculations of the Moon's position, and continued to be used for most of the remainder of the 20th century.

Alfred Ernest Brown CH (August 27, 1881-February 16, 1962) was a British politician who served as leader of the National Liberals from 1940 until 1945.
Brown served as Secretary of State for Scotland for a year before becoming Minister of Health for two years and finally Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
Brown's tenure as leader of the Liberal Nationals was one of decline, as the party saw its influence diminish.
