Ernie Hardeman was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in June, 1995 and was appointed as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing until 1999.
Hardeman's long municipal background and rural knowledge was recognized by Premier Ernie Eves when he was asked to join Cabinet as the Associate Minister to Municipal Affairs (Rural).
Hardeman served as chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) in 1993 and 1994.

Hardeman, the associate minister of municipal affairs, defeated Liberal candidate Brian Brown in a rematch to become one of 24 Tories re-elected in the province.
Hardeman said he was jubilant and felt very, very good as he arrived to a cheering crowd at a Woodstock restaurant.
Hardeman, known for his folksy style, reached the pinnacle of his career right after the 1999 election when he was named agriculture minister.

Ernie Hardeman was elected to the Ontario Legislature on June 8, 1995 and named Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs (Rural) by Premier Mike Harris.
Hardeman also served as chair of the Provincial-Municipal Implementation Team, which was responsible for deciding which level of government is responsible for which services.
Hardeman served as the provincial president of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association and served on the board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Hardeman spoke about the recent announcement of the new program called the Rural Water Quality Initiative which is part of a government program called the Healthy Futures Program for Ontario Agriculture, which will provide money to organizations/municipalities who want to pair up and provide solutions for farmers and other organizations that would improve water quality.
Hardeman stated that the farmers of this province are the stewards of the environment and it's in their best interest to make sure those resources are properly managed.
Hardeman noted that another area that was being reviewed are the current drainage programs and the government is currently assessing the cost to the Ontario taxpayer.

Hardeman is adamant agriculture minister Steve Peters should designate the inspectors as essential workers or put them in a separate bargaining unit.
But Hardeman understands the reduced work force's purpose in the event of a strike is to ensure the provincial abattoirs aren't operating, not to assist with meat inspection and keep the plants open.

Tim Hudak, MPP (Erie Lincoln) has reiterated his request to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ernie Hardeman, to continue grants to agricultural societies and preserve their property tax exempt status for agricultural fairgrounds.
Hudak had recently arranged for Minister Hardeman to visit with constituents and municipal leaders in Erie-Lincoln on March 13th.
Hudak has requested that Minister Hardeman give full consideration to his constituents’ requests to continue the grants from the Ministry that assist agricultural societies in organizing the fairs and to protect that the property tax status of fairgrounds owned by agricultural societies.

The new CT scanner will mean increased access and shorter wait times for the advanced technology needed to detect diseases like cancer, strokes and head injuries.   A Request for Proposals is underway, and the new CT scanner is expected to be up and running by July 2003
CT scanners are especially useful when diagnosing and treating elderly and immobile patients.  The machine can move 360 degrees around a patient, taking pictures from a number of different angles so the patient does not have to be repeatedly moved.
Natasa Veljovic, CEO of the Woodstock General Hospital added, "We are so pleased to have the CT scanner approved.  Thanks to the hard work and support of Ernie Hardeman, the City of Woodstock and its citizens, the CT scanner will be a wonderful addition to our Diagnostic Imaging Department.”

Fuel developer Ensyn Technologies Inc. and milk produceer Neilson Dairy received big cash boosts on Monday from the provincial government.
At a ceremony at Ensyn's facility south of the city in Greely, the province's associate minister of municipal affairs Ernie Hardeman praised Ensyn's "innovative" idea of converting wood residue into new reusable fuel.
Ensyn's Greely location is in the midst of developing a process whereby wood residue is converted into what is known as "bio-oil." The oil can then be used as electricity, an adhesive, a polymer or a food-flavouring compound.
