Ladd spent the 1966 season playing for the Houston Oilers before moving, in 1967, to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ladd became one of wrestling's most hated heels during the 1970's, as well as one of the first Black wrestlers to portray a heel character.
Ladd was managed by The Grand Wizard of Wrestling for much of the 1970's, and provided WWWF Champions Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund some of the toughest challenges of their respective title reigns.

Ernie Roth (born June 7, 1929 in Fort Lauderdale Florida, died October 12, 1983), best known as The Grand Wizard of Wrestling, also well known as Abdullah Farouk, was a professional wrestling manager of many infamous heels.
Ernie Roth got his start in the entertainment business as a disc jockey, and became involved in professional wrestling as a manager in the 1960s in Detroit-based territories.
Sadly, on October 12, 1983 Ernie Roth died of a heart attack at the age of 54.
