'''Ernst Herrera Legorreta''' is a Computer Scientist, Linguist, Biological Anthropologist.
He is the creator of the functional-multidimensional NGL programming language, the first general purpose programming language developed in Mexico.
In early 2004, Herrera provided the first hard evidence in 50 years that strongly supports the original ideas of the American linguists Benjamin Whorf and Morris Swadesh regarding Nahuatl's oligosynthetic character.

Whorf proposed that Nahuatl was oligosynthetic, but this has since been discounted by most linguists.
In 2004, computer scientist and linguist Ernst Herrera Legorreta put forward new evidence in support of Whorf's original claims about Nahuatl.
It has yet to be seen whether this will change the academic consensus with respect to oligosynthesis.

I believe the most recent edition of Karttunen s Analytical Dictionary of Nahuatl makes reference to Legorreta s oligosynthetic work.
I ll move the relevant paragraph to the talk page until some conclusive evidence can be found.
Once I ve separated the results for Fermin Herrera, Google yields little of value.

Since the 1950s, this notion has been generally dismissed by the linguistic community.
However, since linguist and computer scientist Ernst Herrera Legorreta put forward new evidence of Nahuatl's oligosynthetic nature in 2004, the Blackfoot language has experienced a resurgence of scholarly interest.
The velar consonants become palatals and c when preceded by front vowels.

Less well known, but important, are his contributions to the study of the Nahuatl and Maya languages.
He claimed that Nahuatl was an oligosynthetic language (a claim that would be brought up again some twenty years later by Morris Swadesh, another controversial American linguist, and, more recently, by Ernst Herrera Legorreta, a Mexican linguist).
Regarding Maya, he focused on the linguistic nature of the Mayan writing, claiming that it was syllabic to some degree (a claim that has been proven right by Scheele et.

NGL programming language (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.isi.jhu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
NGL (short for aNGeL) is a function-level programming array programming language featuring an iconical mathematical notation and tuple pattern matching.
NGL was the result of research performed during 2001-2004 by Ernst Herrera Legorreta looking for ways to apply function-level programming languages to bioinformatics, large scale multidimensional database datawarehouses and data mining algorithms.
Initially, the J programming language was used, but soon it was decided to create a new language on top of it, one that would support a different notation style, along with pattern matching and related syntax.
