Sandiford was pushed to the side and is a forgotten man in Barbados and the Caribbean.
It was at a University of the West Indies ground-breaking ceremony for the new Sir Frank Worrell Hall of Residence at the Cave Hill campus.
Sandiford was not the kind of political hypocrite which we have grown to know so well in Jamaica.

Former DLP Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Erskine Sandiford came under intense criticism in 1988 when his Budget was "late".

Barrow was succeeded by Deputy Prime Minister Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, a member of the House since 1971 and the holder of a number of ministerial portfolios under two previous DLP governments.
On June 1, 1987, Barrow died of a heart attack and was succeeded by Deputy Prime Minister Sandiford.
Elected to the House in 1971, he was a cabinet minister in Barrow's third administration, a senator from 1967 to 1971, and was chosen deputy prime minister in 1986.

Jackman has taken issue with Sandiford's argument that the change to republican status will not make Barbados more independent on several grounds, not least of which is the fact that the decision was supported by Mr Maurice King.
The other basis of Jackman's disagreement is related to the apparent opportunism of Sandiford's opposition since he (Jackman) believes that the change would "perfect the nation's Independence" and place a Barbadian at the pinnacle of our system of government.
I agree with Sandiford that this change will not make us more independent, but unlike Jackman I consider this deficiency to be the crux of the problem.

Former Barbadian Prime Minister Erskine Sandiford, who was among the 2,000 in attendance at the service at a Bridgetown stadium, called for a permanent memorial to pay tribute to Marshall.
Known as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Marshall took 376 wickets in 81 tests for the West Indies between 1979 and 1991, which stood as a record until last year.
