	Esat Telecom Partners PKS Systems in Launching E-Business
		Sean Corkery, Esat Telecom's Chief Operations Officer said he was delighted to partner PKS Ireland in bringing the benefits of a comprehensive portfolio of integrated telecommunications services, including E-Business Continuity, to companies throughout Munster and Connaught.
		Esat Telecom is currently constructing its own wholly fiber optic telecommunications network, many links of which are already completed.
		Esat Telecom is the subject of a hostile pounds 1.2bn bid from Telenor of Norway.

	Nortel Networks: News Release - Esat Telecom Group plc Awards US$50 Million Contract to Nortel Networks
		Currently, Esat Telecom's SDH network is based on Nortel Networks' STM-16 2.5 Gbit/s technology.
		Esat Telecom will now deploy Nortel Networks D-WDM and STM-64 multiplexer, initially providing 20 Gbit/s, making it one of the highest capacity networks in Ireland.
		Esat Telecom, Esat Net and BridgeCom Group employ 650 people and have offices in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.

		The telecom services market is still regulated by TRAI who charges a huge licensing fee for anyone who enters the market which kind of restricts the easy entry and exit of a service provider from this arena.
		Telecom New Zealand has provided 2 Mbit/s broadband internet by way of ADSL since 1999, and its main rival TelstraClear offers cable internet in Wellington and Christchurch.
		However, Telecom's effective monopoly on the local loop is widely regarded to be an impediment to mass-market broadband uptake in the country.

	RTÉ News: Lowry defends Esat/Telecom Éireann decision
		The former Minister for Communications, Michael Lowry, has issued a statement on a report in a Sunday newspaper, which referred to a decision he made in 1996 in relation to Telecom Éireann and Esat Telecom.
		Today's Sunday Tribune claimed Mr Lowry had personally instructed Telecom Éireann to assist Esat in providing voice telephony services to its corporate customers.
		Mr Lowry in his statement confirmed this, but said that his decision was based on legal advice concerning a directive from the European Commission.

		Ofcom reported in June 2005 that there were more broadband than dial-up connections for the first time in history., a new alliance was formed to create the largest market share of broadband users.
		8Mbit/s enabled exchanges have begun appearing in larger cities, with British Telecom announcing that more than 5300 exchanges will be upgraded to allow 99.6% of homes in the UK access to the higher speeds.
