  BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is an annual competition held in Dublin, Ireland early in the new year for encouraging interest in science in secondary schools, currently sponsored by BT Ireland.
Previous to 1997, since its inception, the event was sponsored by Aer Lingus and known as the Aer Lingus Young Scientist Exhibition.
The winners of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition go on to participate in international events such as the European Union Contest for Young Scientists and the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar.

The first Young Scientist Exhibition was held in January 1965 and the students who participated are now approaching their 50th birthday.
Since the exhibition started the number of girls participating in the exhibition has outnumbered boys by two to one, however, the battle of the sexes is more evenly bal-anced when it comes to winning, boys slightly shading it by 53% to 47%.
The 1992 Young Scientist winners Elizabeth Dowling and Jean Byrne from St. Paul's in Dublin were invited as guests of honour to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.

 Ireland to host 2004 European Union Contest for Young Scientists
The weeklong exhibition, which is to be held at Dublin's RDS in September 2004, is expected to bring over 500 delegates to Dublin city and attract thousands of visitors.
One of the ways of fostering greater participation in science at school level and future study and research at third level is to facilitate young science students in demonstrating their innovative capabilities.
Since 1989, Ireland's young scientists have received top honours on nine occasions, most recently in 1999 when Cork student, Sarah Flannery, won gold in Athens for her project on cryptography.

Coláiste Choilm's contribution to the exhibition was marvelled at by everyone who came in contact with the 90 students from the school.

 Young Scientist award for Kiltimagh
Two Kiltimagh students have scooped second prize in the group section of the Esat Telecom Young Scientist exhibition for their project on 'Depression and Adolescence'.
Katherine Harkin and Elaine Mears, students at St. Louis Community School in Kiltimagh were presented with their award by An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, for a startling project which reveals a high level of depressive symptoms among the West of Ireland's young people.
This award marks a double for the school who also took the runner up spot in the national competition two years ago.

 ESAT BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2005
UCC’s Faculty of Science made its annual appearance at the ESAT BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS, exhibiting as part of the joint university initiative ‘Irish Universities Promoting Science’.
This year’s event was the 41st Young Scientist Exhibition with over 1,000 students competing and over 480 projects on display, compared with the 230 competitors who took part in the first ever exhibition back in 1964.

UCC's Faculty of Science and Faculty of Food Science and Technology attended the Esat BT Young Scientist Exhibition again this year as part of the joint university initiative "Irish Universities Promotion Science".
This year's Exhibition, the 39th, was the largest to date -- with over 1,044 participating students and 562 projects on display.

The Esat Young Scientist Exhibition took place in the RDS from the 10th-13th January and for the second year running the NCTE sponsored an area of the exhibition.
