It is the belief of Escambia River Outward Bound that an education is not confined to a classroom.

 A Brief History of Perdido Bay
Logging was a big industry on the bay for many years, and for part of the time, logs were moved to Pensacola Bay by taking them through a manmade cut dug approximately where the intracoastal waterway now connects Perdido Bay and Big Lagoon.
The water in the bay near the mouths of creeks was fresh enough that freshwater fish were in the bay as well as in the creeks.
The increased tidal flow caused a rise in the average salinity of the bay's water, contributing to a change in the overall ecology of the bay and its tributaries.

True, they are polluting our bay the whole time, but at least they do not have a permit to do so for another nine years.
Friends of Perdido Bay and the Perdido Bay Foundation collected muck from several properties around the upper bay and had it tested for dioxin, PCB's and several heavy metals.

The Category 4 hurricane heavily damaged the Interstate 10 Bridge spanning Escambia Bay, and loss of the bridge meant that traffic had to detour 130 miles out of its way.
The distance between the beginning of the shelf and the coast is relatively short, so the wave doesn't have sufficient time to redevelop.
By the time the surge struck the bridge structure, it reached points near the top of the deck, trapping air between the girders and generating a massive uplift.

On September 16, 2004, Hurricane Ivan struck Pensacola, Florida, with 120-mile-per-hour winds that severely damaged the 2.5 mile I-10 bridge over Escambia Bay.
The hurricane’s wrath resulted in over 3,400 feet of the bridge dropping into the bay, requiring a detour that added at least an hour of travel time for motorists.
