SEPARATION OF THE ESCHAR   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
After the self-dissolved necrotic tissue of third-degree eschar is separated from the new growth of granulation tissue, the already separated and loosened eschar should be scissored off immediately.
Therefore, after the eschar has been cast off, the principle of "grafting as much as possible" should be adopted to ensure that the wound is covered with autografts or allografts in time.
Debridement, however, must be avoided before the eschar has the tendency to separate spontaneously, the reason being that at this time its base is formed by necrotic tissue, and skin grafting cannot be performed within a short period after debridement.

Eschar Formation -- This photo at left was marked "Day 3 -- Pus and Redness." The initial application of Cansema Salve to skin that contains cancer cells produces a rubifacient (reddening) effect, some edema, and quite often a pain response - usually mild.
Notice that both the eschar and the surrounding healthy tissue appear "dried out," with the edematous appearance now gone.
The eschar encorporated the entirety of the cancer (or the entire localized cancer growth -- we have no way of knowing if there is cancer elsewhere in the body), leaving the surrounding, healthy tissue only mildly irritated.

A secondary purpose was to determine the effect of mechanical debridement of the cervical eschar on the symptoms of healing.
Six symptoms commonly experienced by women undergoing cryosurgery were used as markers of this process: the amount and duration of hydrorrhea, the number of pads used, the duration and intensity of the malodor associated with the hydrorrhea, and the duration of pain and cramping experienced.
A second purpose was to determine the effect of mechanical debridement of the cervical eschar on these symptoms and to determine whether obesity and gravidity affected the 6 symptoms of healing.

Burn wounds may be classified as wound cellulitis, which involves the unburned skin at the margin of the burn, or as an invasive wound infection, which is characterized by microbial invasion of viable tissue beneath the burn wound eschar.
