  Esdras
Esdras was of priestly descent and belonged to the line of Sardoc (I Esdras, vii, 1-5).
Esdras continued the public reading of the Law every day of the feast; and two days after its close a strict fast was held, and "they stood, and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers" (II Esdras, ix, 2).
Esdras A of the Septuagint is III Esdras of St. Jerome, whereas the Greek Esdras B corresponds to I and II Esdras of the Vulgate, which were originally united into one book.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Esdras (Ezra)
Esdras was of priestly descent and belonged to the line of Sardoc (Ezra 7:1-5).
Esdras continued the public reading of the Law every day of the feast; and two days after its close a strict fast was held, and "they stood, and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers" (Nehemiah 9:2).
It was formally recited by the princes, the Levites, and the priests, and signed by Nehemias and chosen representatives of the priests, the Levites, and the people (strange as it may appear, Esdras's name is not to be found in the list of the subscribers -- Nehemiah 10:1-27).

1 Esdras - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In most editions of the Septuagint, the book is titled in Greek: Εσδρας Α′ (in Latin: Esdrae I) and is placed before the books of Ezra and Nehemiah, which are together titled in Greek: Εσδρας Β′ (in Latin: Esdrae II).
However, Jerome, in his translation of the Vulgate, considered 1 Esdras as apocryphal, and titled the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as 1 and 2 Esdras, giving the current book the title 3 Esdras.
The Russian Orthodox Church, which considers both this book and Ezra's apocalypse canonical and list them in the Slavonic Bible, counts the proto-canonical Ezra and Nehemiah as 1 Esdras, with the 3 and 4 Esdras of Jerome being labelled 2 and 3 Esdras, respectively.

Esdras, The First Book Of (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) :: Bible Tools
With the exception of 1 Esdras 3:1 through 5:6--the incident of the royal banquet and the contest for a prize of the three young men--the present books agree in everything essential, down to the minutest details, with the canonical Ezra and part of 2 Chronicles and Nehemiah.
In 1 Esdras 9:49 (parallel Nehemiah 8:9) "Attharates" is the word used, and as a proper name (see 1 Esdras 5:40, "Nehemiah and Attharates").
It must be admitted that 1 Esdras and Josephus preserve the true sequence of the events chronicled in Nehemiah 7:73 through 10, the Massoretic Text and the Greek version based on it having gone wrong at this point, probably through the mixing of Hebrew skins or leaves.

 The Catholic Legate
The apocryphal Esdras is known as “Esdras A” or “1 Esdras” in the Septuagint and as “3 Esdras” in the Vulgate.
He asserts that because in the major LXX codices the apocryphal Esdras is known as “1 Esdras” and Ezra-Nehemiah is called “2 Esdras”, respectively, that the “two books of Esdras” referred to by the North African Synods [12] referred to the LXX usage.
His translation of Esdras was completed sometime in 394 A.D., meaning his work on this was contemporary with the proceedings at the Synod of Hippo in 393 A.D. He completed his Vulgate translation in about 405 A.D. and submitted it to Pope St. Innocent I (401-417 A.D.) that same year.

 1 Esdras (NRSV)
For the most part, 1 Esdras simply parallels the relevant portions of 2 Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah; the only extensive unparalleled material is 1 Esdr 3-4 (the debate of the three bodyguards).
It is more likely that 1 Esdras reflects the views of a group in post-exilic Judaism that regarded Ezra and Nehemiah and their work quite differently (in 2 Macc 1.18-2.13 and in Sir 49.13 Nehemiah is mentioned and Ezra is ignored).
They seem to be from Neh 8.13, and we may assume that 1 Esdras originally included at least the narrative of the celebration of the festival of booths that is found in Neh 8.13-18.

Not only is it known as First Esdras, but in the Vulgate is called III Esdras, and some nowadays call it 3 Ezra.
The book of First Esdras is basically a reproduction of 2 Chronicles 35-36, Ezra, and Nehemiah 7:38-8:12, and for some mysterious reason ends mid-sentence of Nehemiah 8:13 with "And they assembled..." But there are some things that are unique to this book.
You see, II Esdras is the only book in the Apocrypha that is apocalyptic, meaning it purports to unveil hidden mysteries.
