Residents are urged to make themselves aware of the current requirements and to manage their water use to ensure they are in compliance with the water usage.
Esk Shire Council operates six separate water supply schemes (Fernvale, Lowood, Somerset Dam, Esk, Toogoolawah and Linville) to provide water to 6,200 residents living in urban centres and rural-residential areas within the Shire.
Council's Water Officer, with a small crew of plumbers and trainees, ensures that all treatment plants and distribution pipe work are kept in order and that the operators, who all have certificates in water treatment, keep the quality of treatment up to top standard.

 DPIW - Esk Water
Esk Water Authority (trading as Esk Water) was formed on 1 July 1997 by the amalgamation of the bulk works of the previously discrete water schemes servicing the Launceston / Tamar Valley region.
Water was transported via concrete channels and a tunnel into the head of Distillery Creek and stored in a dam a short distance downstream from the existing treatment plant.
In 1949 the North Esk Regional Water Act was passed and the active preparation for the scheme commenced.

A study was undertaken to collate readily available environmental data for the Black Esk catchment and the associated natural water basin, so that West of Scotland Water could assess the possible environmental impacts of changes in water supply activities.
Four reservoirs were visited in the Black Esk Water Supply Area, namely the Black Esk Reservoir and Winterhope Reservoir, and the disused Torbeckhill Reservoir and Purdomstone Reservoir.
Water abstraction, forestry, pastoral, arable and water quality problems were found to be the main issues affecting the reservoirs visited.

Sixteen local government water supply systems were taken off boil water alerts and the number of water supplies in compliance with national standards increased to 61 compared to 46 in 2000–01 (DHHS 2003).
Of the 30 local government water supplies that had 'boil water alerts' in place during the reporting period, there were four systems that had temporary boil water alerts and 26 that were permanently in place because of either continuing poor water quality, or no disinfection (DHHS 2003).
Protection of water supply catchments, which are relatively unaffected by human contact and largely free from atmospheric and environmental pollutants, is necessary to maintain the supply of high quality drinking water at a relatively low cost.

It has been no secret for many years that the people of the north-west coast always considered that the regional water scheme actually belonged to the people in that area, that they were only linked to a State government authority by a bill of the House in years gone past.
I ask the question, if a water resource royalty tax is collected by a level of government, does that government then have to take some moral obligation for the supply of that water at its base, and that is at the water resource base in the mountains.
On the day that he handed the Southern Regional Water Board over, he said that local government should look after that particular area and allow the Government of Tasmania to do what it rightly does in the areas of police, health and education, et cetera.

West Tamar's water usage has decreased since 1980 despite a growing residential area and George Town's usage was either static or slightly down, Esk Water chief executive Barry Cash said yesterday.
If Launceston had continued the water usage trend from 1983 to 1995, it would have been using about 15,000 megalitres of water this year, and a dam would have been inevitable.

If I remember rightly, the East of Scotland water authority's Esk valley project is included in the list, and the scheme is one of those that are currently in preparation.
Friend that there is a real commitment and that it will be reflected in the new authorities, as, to be fair, it is reflected in the present system, to try to tackle the problems as energetically and as quickly as we can.

 £3m Investment for Esk Valley
An improved waste water service is on the cards for parts of Midlothian thanks to a £3million spend on a new drainage system for the Esk Valley.
This project is part of Scottish Water’s £1.8 billion 2002-2006 capital investment programme and is being delivered by Scottish Water Solutions, a joint venture initiative involving eight water industry specialists, created by Scottish Water to deliver the majority of the programme.
June Tinto, Scottish Water’s business and community liaison manager, added: “This project has taken a lot of planning and discussion to come to fruition.

Regulation 3 requires that any salmon caught by rod and line in the Esk salmon fishery district between 16th February and 31st May, both dates inclusive, in each year be returned at once to the water from which it came with the least possible injury.
Regulation 5 restricts the maximum number of fish traps which may be placed or used at any one time in each of the fisheries specified in column 1 of the Schedule to these Regulations to the number specified in column 2 of that Schedule opposite the fishery concerned.
Provision is made in section 10B of the Salmon Act 1986 ("the 1986 Act") applying powers of enforcement, entry, search and arrest to water bailiffs, constables and persons appointed by the Scottish Ministers for the purposes of the enforcement of the provisions of these Regulations.
